Mertal Electrical Inc. is a U.S.
-based electrical products company focused on North American meter socket products.
Our meter socket product line is being developed for the U.S. market, with UL listing in progress. We are looking for an experienced Business Development Director to help build our U.S. sales channels, including electrical distributors, manufacturers’ representatives, utility-related opportunities, and strategic customers.
Position SummaryWe are seeking a Business Development Director – Meter Sockets to lead U.S. market development for our meter socket product line.
This is a hands-on business development role for someone who understands the U.S. electrical products market, especially meter sockets, metering equipment, service equipment, electrical distributors, manufacturers’ representatives, and utility-related sales channels.
The right candidate will help us build the market from the ground up, identify target customers, recruit regional rep firms, develop distributor relationships, support utility approval opportunities, and drive early sales growth.
Key Responsibilities- Lead U.S. business development for meter socket products.
- Develop relationships with electrical distributors, manufacturers’ representatives, utility-related contacts, contractors, builders, and strategic accounts.
- Identify and recruit suitable regional manufacturers’ representative firms.
- Build and manage a sales pipeline for meter socket products.
- Identify target utilities, distributors, territories, and high-potential customer segments.
- Support utility approval / APL opportunities by coordinating with consultants, internal engineering teams, rep firms, and utility-related contacts.
- Provide market and competitor intelligence on major meter socket brands such as Milbank, Eaton, Siemens, Square D, Durham, Midwest Electric, and similar manufacturers.
- Help create product positioning, pricing strategy, sales tools, line cards, catalog structure, cross-reference documents, and go-to-market plans.
- Work with the manufacturing team on product requirements, pricing, samples, lead time, quality feedback, packaging, and customer needs.
- Attend trade shows, customer meetings, rep meetings, distributor visits, and industry events.
- Report weekly on pipeline, customer activity, rep development, market feedback, and business opportunities.
- Help establish Mertal as a long-term meter socket supplier in the U.S. market.
- 8+ years of experience in business development, sales, channel development, or product sales in the electrical products industry.
- Experience with meter sockets, metering equipment, service equipment, electrical enclosures, or related electrical distribution products.
- Experience working with electrical distributors, manufacturers’ representatives, utilities, contractors, or electrical wholesalers.
- Strong understanding of the U.S. electrical distribution market.
- Experience developing sales channels through independent manufacturers’ representatives or distributor networks.
- Ability to open new accounts, build relationships, and develop long-term sales opportunities.
- Comfortable working with a growing company and building sales channels from the ground up.
- Strong communication, negotiation, follow-up, and reporting skills.
- Ability to travel for customer visits, rep meetings, distributor meetings, trade shows, and industry events.
- Self-motivated, practical, hands-on, and results-oriented.
- Direct experience with meter sockets or utility metering equipment is strongly preferred.
- Experience with brands such as Milbank, Eaton, Siemens, Square D, Durham, Midwest Electric, Erickson, ABB, GE, or similar companies.
- Experience working with electrical distributors such as Graybar, Wesco, Rexel, Sonepar, CED, City Electric Supply, Elliott Electric, Border States, or similar distributors.
- Existing relationships with manufacturers’ representatives in the electrical industry.
- Experience with utility approved product lists, utility service guides, APL submissions, EUSERC, MEG, or meter socket approval processes is a strong plus.
