Primary
Purpose:
Provide a safe and secure school environment, foster a learning environment, and deter unsafe or poor behavior. Responsibilities include patrolling the campus, monitoring student behavior, enforcing school and district policies, intervening in physical encounters, monitoring security cameras, managing visitor access, reporting unsafe or unhealthy conditions, and responding to emergency situations.
This position is eligible for a Letter of Assurance.
Qualifications- 3‑5 years in Law Enforcement
- 3‑5 years in armed security (Level III Security Certificate)
- 3‑5 years inactive‑duty military service
- Texas DPS‑Issued valid License to Carry (required)
- Bilingual:
Fluent in English and Spanish (preferred) - Bachelor’s degree (preferred)
- Knowledge of emergency operations planning
- Knowledge of NIMS and FEMA
- Knowledge of health and safety programs and applicable laws
- Working knowledge of security‑related technology (security cameras, video exporting, access control systems, telecommunications, etc.)
- Strong public relations, organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills
- Exceptional work ethic, self‑initiative, and attention to detail
- Excellent judgment and the ability to make sound, reasonable decisions while under pressure
- Exceptional writing and verbal communication skills, including fact‑gathering, investigation of incidents, and drafting informational reports
- Pass a standard fitness exam annually
- Obtain a passing score (90% +) on a pistol qualification course bi‑annually
- Pass a psychological evaluation upon hire and every two years
- Patrol and monitor the campus and surrounding areas to ensure the safety and well‑being of students and staff, and the security of the facility
- Display ethical and professional behavior when working with students, parents, school personnel, and outside agencies
- Serve as a role model, maintaining professional dress and grooming in district‑designated attire
- Assist staff, police, and emergency personnel in handling emergencies or disruptive situations
- Assist visitors with directions and secure proper identification; intercept unauthorized visitors and escort them to exits
- Notify building administration, police, and/or appropriate emergency personnel of any emergency, potentially dangerous or unusual situation
- Notify immediately appropriate personnel of evidence of substance abuse, child abuse or neglect, severe medical or social conditions, potential suicide or individuals under the influence of alcohol or controlled substances
- Participate in in‑service training and workshop programs
- Follow safety protocols and emergency procedures
- Maintain campus security and protect district property against vandalism, illegal entry, and theft; check buildings and grounds for security breaches and unauthorized visitors
- Initiate contact with individuals on school grounds to assure visitor authorization
- Inspect and monitor the security of doors, windows, and gates
- Effectively communicate and maintain cooperative relationships during the course of work
- Perform any duties and responsibilities within the scope of employment, as assigned by supervisor, and not otherwise prohibited by law or regulation
- Perform additional duties as assigned
Tools/Equipment Used: District vehicle, firearm, security uniform, flashlight, two‑way radio, digital camera, alarm system, other security equipment, fire extinguisher, standard office equipment including computer and peripherals
Posture: Prolonged standing and sitting; occasional kneeling, squatting, bending, or stooping
Motion: Frequent walking; occasional strenuous running, climbing, pushing/pulling, twisting, grasping/squeezing, wrist flexion/extension, overhead reaching, keyboarding, computer mouse use, and driving
Lifting: Lifting and carrying up to 30 pounds without assistance, 30‑55 pounds with assistance, and more than 55 pounds with appropriate assistance on a daily basis
