Description

Holt CAT, the largest Caterpillar dealer of heavy construction equipment in the United States, is seeking an experienced Field Service Technician for the Dallas/Fort Worth Texas Region. The primary role is to conduct exceptional field service repairs on heavy construction equipment such as dozers, backhoes, front‑end loaders, and excavators, addressing issues with emissions, hydraulics, engines, transmissions, HVAC, and electrical systems. The position’s hours are Monday through Friday, 7 am to 5 pm, with overtime required as needed.

Qualified candidates must have a valid driver’s license, a good driving record, and the ability to obtain a CDL Class B. A DOT medical card must be maintained.

Essential Functions
  • Ability to troubleshoot, diagnose, and repair construction equipment using electronic and manual methods to determine failure.
  • Able to document all work orders properly.
  • Must be able to troubleshoot and diagnose Tier 4 emission systems.
  • Must be able to troubleshoot and diagnose EGR systems.
  • Works safely at all times and adheres to all applicable safety policies; complies with all company policies, procedures, and standards.
  • Performs intermediate repairs and troubleshooting off‑site with minimal supervision.
  • Performs intermediate troubleshooting, diagnosis of equipment malfunctions, and failure analysis.
  • Removes and installs parts, disassembles and assembles components to CAT specifications.
  • Tests, makes adjustments, and verifies proper operation of all repairs and adjustments.
  • Prepares and completes all job‑related documents, writes service reports, orders parts, and maintains clear customer records; accesses required databases.
  • Acts as a team leader and mentors/coaches.
  • Participates in the quotation of work orders.
  • Operates equipment and vehicles with possession of all necessary licenses and certificates.
  • Maintains service vehicle inspection records, daily inspections and driver logs as required by the Department of Transportation.
  • Adheres to contamination control and HAZMAT rules and regulations.
  • Maintains all company equipment, tools, and vehicles in good, clean, and working order.
  • Communicates job progress to supervisor and customer as needed.
  • Completes assigned jobs and tasks to meet flat‑rate time and re‑work standards.
  • Works overtime as required by workload and customers’ needs.
  • Completes all assigned Technician Training Path courses and safety training in a timely and proficient manner.
  • Projects professionalism with both internal and external customers, including personal appearance; may be relied upon to act as a mentor to lower‑level technicians.
  • Requires regular and punctual employee attendance.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
  • Ability to troubleshoot, diagnose, and repair heavy construction equipment using electronic and manual methods to determine failure.

  • Must be able to troubleshoot and diagnose electrical systems.

  • Knowledge of safe work procedures and practices.
  • Knowledge of equipment and tools, including their designs, uses, repair, and maintenance.
  • Intermediate knowledge of hydraulics, transmissions, engines, undercarriage, and electrical.
  • Demonstrates proficiency with current computer software, related hardware, and knowledge of machine electronic systems.
  • Exceptional customer‑service skills.
  • Intermediate diagnostic and trouble‑shooting skills - preferred CAT ET and CAT SIS
  • Planning and organizing skills to prioritize and plan work activities; uses time efficiently; plans for additional resources.
