Installation Technician
Position Summary
As a Sr. Substation Technician you will play a key role in the successful delivery of substation construction projects by leading field crews, coordinating daily installation activities, and ensuring work is executed safely, efficiently, and in alignment with project specifications. You will be responsible for planning work fronts, managing materials, interpreting construction drawings, and supporting site leadership in driving productivity, quality, and schedule performance.
This role is critical in maintaining strong communication between field teams and project leadership while upholding Aecon’s standards of safety and operational excellence.
- Interpret Issued for Construction (IFC) drawings and provide redlines to the Site Supervisor as required
- Lead and coordinate daily installation activities for assigned crews
- Plan and organize weekly work fronts to meet project schedule requirements
- Manage and track materials, consumables, and tools required for execution
- Support the Site Supervisor in resolving on-site challenges and crew-level issues
- Ensure all work is completed safely, efficiently, and in compliance with project specifications
- Communicate site progress, constraints, and material needs to site leadership
- Maintain accurate crew timesheets and daily production reports
- Promote and enforce Aecon’s safety culture and compliance with all safety standards
- Minimum of 3+ years of substation field experience, including at least 1+ year in a Sub‑foreman or leadership capacity, with strong hands‑on experience across substation construction scopes.
- Foundation installation in line with engineered specifications
- Conduit installation and routing within substation environments
- Ground grid installation and grounding systems
- Precast trench installation and site integration
- Cable tray installation for structured cable management
- Structural steel installation and alignment
- Apparatus installation and equipment setting
- Bus work installation with proper clearances and fit‑up
- Low‑voltage cable installation, termination, and wiring
- Strong leadership, communication, and organizational skills, along with the ability to thrive in a fast‑paced, deadline‑driven construction environment.
- Experience working in brownfield environments, including protection grounding, is an asset, as is exposure to substation energization and commissioning/start‑up activities.
