Position Summary
We are seeking a skilled and dependable Welder with hands‑on experience in heavy construction equipment (yellow iron) repair and trailer fabrication/repair. The ideal candidate takes pride in quality craftsmanship, works safely in a fast‑paced shop environment, and has a strong understanding of various welding processes used in structural and heavy‑duty applications.
Key Responsibilities- Yellow Iron (Heavy Equipment) Welding
- Inspect, repair, and rebuild structural components on heavy construction equipment including excavators, dozers, graders, loaders, and scrapers.
- Weld wear plates, cutting edges, bucket teeth mounts, boom arms, frames, and other high‑stress components.
- Perform hard‑facing and overlay welding to extend the service life of wear parts.
- Diagnose cracks, fractures, and metal fatigue; determine proper repair procedures and pre‑heat requirements.
- Fabricate custom brackets, guards, and replacement parts as needed.
- Trailer Fabrication & Repair
- Fabricate and repair flatbed, lowboy, gooseneck, and utility trailers from raw steel stock.
- Weld frame rails, crossmembers, neck sections, and hitches to required specifications.
- Install and weld rub rails, stake pockets, toolboxes, winch mounts, and other accessories.
- Repair collision and road damage to trailer structures.
- Ensure all welds meet DOT and industry structural standards.
- General Shop Duties
- Read and interpret blueprints, schematics, and work orders.
- Set up and operate welding equipment, cutting torches, plasma cutters, and grinders.
- Perform light fabrication tasks including cutting, forming, and fitting steel.
- Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work area.
- Perform routine maintenance and inspection of welding equipment.
- Communicate job status and material needs to supervisor.
- Minimum 3 years of welding experience in a heavy equipment or trailer fabrication environment.
- Proficiency in MIG (GMAW) and flux‑core (FCAW) welding; stick (SMAW) experience preferred.
- Ability to weld in all positions (flat, horizontal, vertical, overhead).
- Experience welding mild steel, high‑strength steel, and AR plate.
- Ability to read blueprints, weld symbols, and work orders.
- Working knowledge of cutting tools including oxy‑acetylene torch and plasma cutter.
- Must be able to lift up to 50 lbs. and work in various physical positions throughout the day.
- Valid driver’s license preferred.
- AWS D1.1 Structural Welding Certification or equivalent.
- Experience with TIG welding on structural components.
- Familiarity with DOT trailer regulations and standards.
- Experience with hard‑facing and overlay welding processes.
- Prior work in a construction equipment dealership or OEM repair facility.
- Ability to stand, kneel, crouch, and work in confined spaces for extended periods.
- Tolerance for heat, noise, sparks, and fumes in a shop environment; proper PPE provided and required.
- Must be able to wear all required personal protective equipment including welding helmet, gloves, and protective clothing.
Full‑time position, Monday–Friday; overtime and weekends may be required based on workload. Indoor/outdoor shop setting. Competitive hourly wage based on experience. Benefits include health insurance, paid time off, and retirement plan options.
