Journeyman Electrician
Under general supervision, maintain, repair, and install electrical systems, services, and equipment for the District. Maintain and provide for the safe condition and operation of all electrical systems and fixtures in District facilities.
Education/Certification
- High School Diploma or GED, preferred
- Valid Texas Journeyman Electrician License, required
- Documented electrical courses from Trade School, preferred
- Valid Class C Texas driver's license and proof of insurability with District insurance carrier
Special Knowledge/Skills
- Knowledge and skills to qualify as an electrical journeyman in accordance with industry standards
- Knowledge of electrical circuits, wiring and operating principles of motors, current electrical codes and ordinances
- Ability to read blueprints, schematics, wiring diagrams, and written reference material
- Strong organizational, communication (verbal and written), and interpersonal skills
- Ability to supervise and evaluate the performance of electrical staff
- Ability to follow and issue written and verbal instructions
- Ability to perform mathematical calculations
- Ability to diagnose and resolve problems
- Ability to use hand and power tools
- Basic computer skills
- Ability to utilize technology resources relevant to position
Experience
Minimum three years of electrical industry experience; public education experience, preferred

Frequent walking, climbing stairs/ladders/scaffolding, grasping/squeezing, wrist flexion/extension, and overhead reaching; frequent driving
Lifting:
Lifting and carrying up to 55 pounds without assistance, more than 55 pounds with appropriate assistance, on a daily basis
Environment:
Work outside and inside, on slippery or uneven walking surfaces, and on ladders or scaffolding; frequent exposure to extreme hot and cold temperatures, humidity, dust, toxic chemicals and materials, asbestos-containing materials, grease, oils, loud noises, vibration, and electrical hazards; work around machinery with moving parts; may work alone; occasionally work irregular or prolonged hours; frequent district wide travel
