Mechanic, Trades ​/ Skilled Labor

Responsibilities

• Inspecting and locating mechanical difficulties on city vehicles and heavy equipment
• Ordering parts and supplies
• Providing information used to write estimates, work orders and requisitions
• Repairing or replacing drive lines, electrical systems, brake systems, radiators, motors, and air conditioning compressors
• Conducting vehicle and trailer state inspections
• Rebuilding, overhauling and tuning up engines

Typical duties will require lifting up to 50 pounds frequently.

• A high school diploma or equivalent, plus vocational or similar training in automotive or diesel repair work
• Two years of relevant experience, including experience with automotive or diesel vehicles
• Valid Texas driver’s license
• Must possess or obtain within one year:
  Automotive Service Excellence (ASE) certification, State Motor Vehicle Safety and Emissions Inspector License, EPA/IMACA Refrigerant License, and Forklift Operator’s Safety Permit
• Must provide own tools, preferably possessing necessary tools at the time of hire
• May be required to work in a field service truck and perform field service work; availability to work the day shift and periodic after‑hours on‑call duty, including nights, weekends and holidays
