Position Overview

This position is responsible for performing inspections, diagnoses, and repairs of heavy construction equipment and/or related equipment or components, following established procedures and guidelines. The role leads a team of mechanical service technicians to meet customer needs and achieve departmental goals. Responsibilities include setting production goals, supervising, training, and evaluating service employees to support company objectives.

Essential Functions
  • Monitor physical requirements for work completion and communicate them to supervisors.
  • Model and reinforce company policies and values in collaboration with other functions.
  • Achieve labor sales and utilization expectations to meet revenue targets.
  • Perform the duties of a Service Supervisor during periods of absence.
  • Troubleshoot and diagnose equipment malfunctions and failures.
  • Provide quality control inspections of completed tasks.
  • Disassemble and assemble machine components to manufacturer specifications using hand, pneumatic, and specialized tools.
  • Rebuild, repair, recondition, and maintain equipment and components.
  • Maintain good customer relations and communicate customer needs to shop management.
  • Plan and control repair job costs.
  • Complete parts orders and identify parts for return.
  • Provide task‑ and behavior‑oriented supervision, mentoring, and training to others.
  • Maintain equipment and work areas in a clean, orderly condition.
  • Work safely at all times, adhering to all applicable safety policies and company standards.
  • Work overtime as required by workload and customer needs.
  • Update job knowledge by participating in educational opportunities, e.g., Pro Tech Technician Training Paths.

  • Extensive knowledge of machines and tools, including design, repair, and maintenance.
  • Proficiency with current computer software, hardware, and machine electronic systems.
  • Quality control analysis skills; conduct tests and inspections to evaluate performance and communicate findings.

  • Equipment selection skills to determine appropriate tools for a job.
  • Ability to operate a forklift and an overhead crane.
  • Rapidly and accurately operate machine or vehicle controls to exact positions.
  • Skillful use of hand, power, pneumatic, and specialized tools for mechanical repair.
  • Fine manual dexterity for manipulating small objects.
  • Reading, writing, and comprehension skills.
  • Listening and understanding skills for verbal instructions.
Requirements
  • Preferred:
    More than ten years of work‑related skill, knowledge, or experience.
  • Preferred:
    High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Owns a comprehensive set of hand tools and some specialized tools.

    Some travel may be expected.
  • Physical Requirements:
    • Move objects and use abdominal and lower back muscles without fatigue.
    • Frequent movement of materials or equipment up to 50 pounds.
    • Maintain good manual dexterity, coordination, and stamina for constant limb use.
    • Ascend and descend ladders or equipment independently using both hands and feet.
    • Maneuver safely and work underneath equipment.
    • React to visual and auditory signals and perform visual inspections as required.

    • Exposure to weather extremes when working outside.
    • Occasional loud noise levels.
    • Exposure to small quantities of chemicals, dust, steam, high‑pressure water, and high‑speed rotating equipment.
