This position performs skilled mechanical repair tasks that are involved in the maintenance and repair of specialized city vehicles and equipment. Duties include inspecting and locating mechanical difficulties on city vehicles and heavy equipment; ordering parts and supplies; providing information used to write estimates, work orders and requisitions; repairing or replacing drive lines, electrical systems, brake systems, radiators, motors and air conditioning compressors;

conducting vehicle and trailer state inspections; and rebuilding, overhauling and tuning up engines. Supervision duties will involve giving direction and guidance to employees as a lead worker on an as needed basis. Duties will typically require lifting up to 50 pounds frequently. A high school diploma or equivalent, plus some vocational or any similar training in automotive or diesel repair work;

three years of relevant experience that includes experience with automotive or diesel vehicles; and a valid Texas driver's license are required. Must currently possess or be able to obtain a class B commercial driver's license (CDL), all eight Automotive Service Excellence (ASE) certifications for light (A1-A8, Master Certification) and/or six for heavy (T2-T7, Master Certification) within six months of hire.

A State Motor Vehicle Safety and Emissions Inspector License, EPA/IMACA Refrigerant License and Forklift Operator's Safety Permit will also be required. Must provide one's own tools, preferably possessing necessary tools at the time of hire. May be required to work in a field service truck and perform field service work, with the availability to work the day shift and periodic after-hours on-call duty including nights, weekends and holidays.

PAY GRADE GG19 / FULL PAY RANGE $28.05 - $39.55 PER HOUR
