Journeyman Electrician

The Journeyman Electrician is responsible for installing, maintaining, troubleshooting, and repairing industrial and commercial electrical systems. This role oversees electrical infrastructure work, including conduit routing and installation, wire pulling, conduit bending, equipment terminations, and electrical distribution systems, while ensuring all work is completed safely, efficiently, and in full compliance with applicable electrical codes and company standards.

Responsibilities

  • Plan and oversee conduit and pipe routing for a variety of electrical installations in industrial and commercial environments.
  • Install, bend, and securely fasten EMT, rigid, PVC, and other conduit systems in accordance with electrical codes and project specifications.
  • Pull, label, and terminate electrical wiring and cabling to ensure accurate identification and reliable connections.
  • Install, maintain, and troubleshoot switch gear, transformers, motor controls, and other electrical distribution equipment.
  • Work with electrical systems ranging from 480V three-phase down to 120V branch circuits, ensuring proper installation and operation.
  • Install and service lighting systems, including switches, receptacles, breakers, panels, and disconnects.
  • Diagnose and repair electrical faults, equipment failures, and power distribution issues to minimize downtime and maintain safety.
  • Read and interpret electrical drawings, blueprints, schematics, and specifications to execute work accurately and efficiently.
  • Perform equipment startup, testing, commissioning, and verification of proper operation for new and upgraded electrical systems.
  • Ensure full compliance with NEC requirements, safety regulations, and company policies throughout all phases of work.
  • Coordinate with contractors, maintenance personnel, and project teams to complete installations, upgrades, and repairs on schedule.
  • Provide guidance and direction to apprentice helpers and collaborate with them to complete tasks safely and effectively.

Essential Skills

  • Strong experience in industrial and commercial electrical installation, maintenance, troubleshooting, and repair.
  • Proficiency in planning and executing conduit and pipe routing for electrical installations.
  • Hands-on expertise installing, bending, and securing EMT, rigid, PVC, and other conduit systems.
  • Advanced skills in pulling, labeling, and terminating electrical wiring and cabling.
  • Ability to install, maintain, and troubleshoot switch gear, transformers, motor controls, and electrical distribution equipment.
  • Comfort working with electrical systems ranging from 480V three-phase to 120V branch circuits.
  • Experience installing and servicing lighting systems, switches, receptacles, breakers, panels, and disconnects.
  • Strong diagnostic skills for identifying and repairing electrical faults, equipment failures, and power distribution issues.
  • Ability to read and interpret electrical drawings, blueprints, schematics, and specifications accurately.
  • Thorough understanding of NEC requirements and relevant electrical safety regulations.
  • Solid knowledge of construction and ground-up construction practices related to electrical work.
  • Effective communication and coordination skills for working with contractors, maintenance personnel, and project teams.
