Shop Service Technician - Texas First Rentals

Overview

This position demonstrates the ability to perform basic inspections, diagnoses, and repairs of heavy equipment and related components, following established procedures and guidelines. The incumbent works as a member of a team to provide basic mechanical services that satisfy customer needs and achieve departmental goals.

Entry‑level: generally has less than two years of experience and/or demonstrated job‑relevant knowledge/skills. Relies on instructions and pre‑established guidelines to perform the functions of the job; works under immediate supervision.

Daily practices include:

• Perform basic troubleshooting and diagnosis of equipment malfunctions and failures.
• Assist in the rebuilding, repairing, and maintaining of equipment and components.
• Learn how to plan equipment and component repairs.
• Learn how to complete parts orders and identify parts for return.
• Maintain all equipment and work areas in a clean, organized condition.
• Complete all documents associated with repairs in a timely manner.
• Work safely at all times and adhere to all applicable safety policies and company procedures.
• Work overtime as required by workload and customer needs.
• Update job knowledge by participating in educational opportunities (e.g., Pro Tech Technician Training Paths).
• Maintain regular and punctual attendance.
• Perform other duties as assigned.

• General knowledge of equipment and tools, including their design, use, repair, and maintenance.
• Proficiency with current computer software, related hardware, and machine electronic systems.
• Operation and control skills – controlling operations of equipment or systems.
• Equipment selection skills – determining the type of tools and equipment needed to perform a job.
• Ability to operate a conventional forklift.
• Ability to operate hand tools, power tools, pneumatic tools, and equipment used in mechanical repair.
• Ability to rapidly and repeatedly operate machine controls to exact position.
• Ability to make precisely coordinated movements of the fingers of one or both hands to grasp, manipulate, or assemble very small objects.
• Ability to read, write, and understand information.
• Ability to listen to and understand information presented orally.

• Must have/acquire basic mechanic hand and pneumatic tools (metric/standard).

• One or more years of work‑related skill, knowledge, or experience preferred.
• High school diploma or equivalent preferred.

• No travel expected for this position.

• Must be able to move objects and use abdominal and lower back muscles to provide support over time without fatigue.
• Frequently moves materials or equipment weighing up to 50 pounds.
• Constant movement and use of limbs; requires good manual dexterity, coordination, and stamina.
• Ascends/descends with gradual or continuous progress by oneself, using both hands and feet; climbs up and down ladders and/or equipment.
• Can maneuver safely and work underneath equipment.
• Routinely reacts to visual, auditory, and other signals, including alarms and instructions; required to inspect work visually.

• Regularly works indoors around moving mechanical parts.
• May be exposed to weather extremes when working outside in conditions that include inclement weather, heat, cold, and humidity.
• Noise level may be loud at times.
• Exposure to small quantities of chemicals, dust, steam, high‑pressure water, and high‑speed rotating equipment.
• Requires wearing common protective or safety equipment.
• Requires performing work in cramped spaces and/or high places.
