Lead Technician - Heavy Construction Equipment

This position is responsible for performing inspections, diagnoses, and repairs of heavy construction equipment and related equipment or components, following established procedures and guidelines. Works as a leader of a team to provide mechanical services that satisfy customer needs and achieve departmental goals. Primarily responsible for establishing production goals, supervising, training, and evaluating service employees to ensure that work is performed in support of the company's department goals.

• Monitor physical requirements for work completion (facilities, tools, environmental) and communicate them to the supervisor.
• Model and reinforce company policies/practices to ensure that work is performed in alignment with the company's mission, vision, and values.
• Achieve labor sales and utilization expectations as set by the supervisor/manager.
• Perform job duties of a Service Supervisor during periods of absence.
• Troubleshoot and diagnose equipment malfunctions and failures.
• Provide quality control/assurance inspections of completed tasks.
• Disassemble and assemble machine components to manufacturer's specifications using hand tools, pneumatic tools, and specialized tooling.
• Rebuild, repair, recondition, and maintain equipment and components.
• Demonstrate good customer relations and support; communicate customer needs to shop management.
• Plan and control the cost of repair jobs.
• Complete parts orders and identify parts for return.
• Provide task and behavior‑oriented supervision, mentoring, and training to others.
• Maintain all equipment and work areas in clean, orderly condition.
• Work safely at all times and adhere to all applicable safety policies.
• Work overtime as required by workload and customers' needs.
• Update job knowledge by participating in educational opportunities (e.g., Pro Tech Technician Training Paths).
• Perform other duties as assigned.

• Extensive knowledge of machines and tools, including their designs, uses, repair, and maintenance.
• Proficiency with current computer software, related hardware, and machine electronic systems.
• Quality control analysis skills – conduct tests and inspections of products, services, or processes to evaluate quality or performance and communicate findings.
• Operation and control skills – control operations of equipment or systems.
• Equipment selection skills – determine the kind of tools and equipment needed to do a job.
• Ability to operate a forklift and an overhead crane.
• Ability to quickly and repeatedly operate the controls of a machine or vehicle to exact positions.
• Ability to operate hand tools, power tools, pneumatic tools, and equipment used in mechanical repair.
• Ability to make precisely coordinated movements of the fingers of one or both hands to grasp, manipulate, or assemble very small objects.
• Ability to read, write, and understand information.
• Ability to listen to and understand information and ideas presented through spoken words and sentences.

Education and Experience

• More than ten years of work‑related skill, knowledge, or experience is preferred.
• High school diploma or equivalent preferred.
• Owns a large and complete assortment of appropriate hand tools and may have some specialized tools.

• Can ascend/descend with gradual or continuous progress by oneself, using both hands and feet and climb ladders and/or equipment.
• Can maneuver safely and work underneath equipment.
• Reacts to visual, auditory, and other signals, including alarms and instructions.
• Visually inspects work regularly.
