Engine Technician - Shop (Full Time, 1st Shift)
Holt CAT, the largest Caterpillar dealership in the United States, is hiring an Engine Technician for its Irving, Texas location. The position requires Monday‑Friday, 7 AM‑4 PM hours. Responsibilities include high‑quality teardown, inspection, and repair of industrial engines (natural gas and diesel) in a shop environment to meet customer needs promptly and ensure maximum value for work performed.

Generally has two or more years of experience and/or demonstrated job‑relevant knowledge/skills. Relies on instructions and pre‑established guidelines to perform functions of the job while working under moderate supervision.

- Model, promote, reinforce, and reward the consistent use of HOLT's Values Based Leadership (VBL) tools, models, and processes to ensure alignment with our Vision, Values, and Mission.
- Troubleshoot and diagnose equipment malfunctions and failures.
- Disassemble and assemble engines and related components to manufacturer's specifications using hand tools, pneumatic tools, and specialized tooling.
- Rebuild, repair, recondition, and maintain equipment and components.
- Maintain good customer relations and support; communicate customer needs to shop management.
- Plan and control cost of repair jobs.
- Complete parts orders and identify parts for return.
- Mentor and help train other technicians.
- Maintain all equipment and work areas – keep them in good, clean, and orderly condition.
- Work safely at all times and adhere to all applicable safety policies; comply with all company policies, procedures, and standards.
- Work overtime as required by workload and customer needs.
- Update job knowledge by participating in educational opportunities, e.g., Pro Tech Technician Training Paths.
- Require regular and punctual employee attendance.

- Knowledge of machines and tools, including their designs, uses, repair, and maintenance.
- Perform complex repairs correctly such as teardown, inspection, repairs, test running, and/or painting of diesel and natural gas engines in a shop environment.
- Demonstrate proficiency with current computer software, related hardware, and machine electronic systems.
- Quality control analysis skills – conduct tests and inspections of products, services, or processes to evaluate quality or performance and communicate findings.
- Operation and control skills – control operations of equipment or systems.
- Equipment selection skills – determine the kind of tools and equipment needed to do a job.
- Ability to operate a forklift and an overhead crane.
- Ability to quickly and repeatedly operate the controls of a machine or a vehicle to exact positions.
- Ability to operate hand tools, power tools, pneumatic tools, and equipment used in mechanical repair.
- Ability to make precisely coordinated movements of the fingers of one or both hands to grasp, manipulate, or assemble very small objects.
- Ability to read, write, and understand information.
- Ability to listen to and understand information and ideas presented through spoken words and sentences.
- Must have or acquire basic mechanic hand and pneumatic tools (metric/standard).
Education and Experience
- At least two years of diesel or natural gas engine repair experience preferred.
- Ability and knowledge to read/use schematics and diagrams experience is preferred.
- Graduation from a diesel technology program preferred.
