Electrical Power Generator – Field Service Technician

Location: Irving, Texas, United States.

Department: Power Systems Division (PSD) – Full Time – Onsite.

The Holt CAT Power Systems Division is seeking an experienced Field Service Technician to provide high‑quality troubleshooting and repair service on electric power generation equipment, including natural gas or diesel engines, and Automatic Transfer Switches (ATS) and switch gear. The role requires a proactive, safety‑first approach to deliver maximum value to customers in a timely manner.

Essential Functions
  • Work safely at all times and adhere to all applicable safety policies and company procedures.
  • Perform basic to intermediate repairs and troubleshooting off‑site with minimal supervision.
  • Diagnose electric power generator equipment malfunctions and failures.
  • Remove and install parts, disassemble and assemble components to CAT specifications.
  • Test, adjust and verify proper operation of all repairs and adjustments.
  • Prepare and complete job‑related documents, write service reports, order parts, and maintain customer records using required databases.
  • Operate equipment and vehicles with all necessary licenses and certificates; maintain inspection records, daily inspections, and driver logs.
  • Adhere to contamination control and HAZMAT rules and regulations.
  • Maintain all company equipment, tools, and vehicles in a good, clean, and working order.
  • Communicate job progress to supervisors and customers as needed.
  • Complete assigned jobs and tasks to meet flat‑rate time and re‑work standards.
  • Work overtime as required by workload and customer needs.
  • Complete assigned Technician Training Path courses and safety training in a timely and proficient manner.
  • Project professionalism with internal and external customers, including personal appearance; act as a mentor to lower‑level technicians.
  • Maintain regular and punctual employee attendance.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
  • At least 5 years of field or shop service technician experience troubleshooting and repairing electrical power and generators.
  • At least 5 years experience with natural gas and diesel engines.
  • At least 5 years experience with ATS (Automatic Transfer Switches).
  • Electrical 3‑phase experience preferred.
  • Ability to build electrical control panel boxes.
  • Ability to commission generators for data centers.
  • Excellent customer service skills; effective written and verbal communication.
  • Must own tools for both electrical and mechanical work.
  • Intermediate diagnostic and trouble‑shooting skills.
  • Planning and organizing skills to prioritize and plan work activities.
  • Operation and control skills of equipment or systems.
  • Equipment selection skills to determine necessary tools and equipment for a job.
  • Ability to operate a crane and forklift with required certifications and licenses.
  • Ability to meet deadlines and work under fast‑paced, time‑constraining circumstances.
  • Proficiency with hand tools, power tools, pneumatic tools, and mechanical repair equipment.
Requirements
  • More than five years of electric power generator equipment experience required; seven or more years preferred.
  • High school diploma or equivalent preferred.
  • MSHA certification preferred.
  • Electrical Journeyman license preferred.
  • Electrical experience with 270 V or greater.
  • 3‑phase electrical experience preferred.
  • Valid driver’s license required.
  • Must maintain a DOT Medical Card and a safe driving record.
  • Must maintain a valid Texas driver license.
  • Required to work Monday‑Friday from 7 AM to 5 PM, and overtime as required.
  • Must be on‑call two weeks out of the month.
  • Must own required tools to perform repairs.
  • Travel required with overnight stays.
Physical Requirements
  • Ability to move objects and use abdominal and lower back muscles to provide support over time without fatigue.
  • Frequently moves materials or equipment weighing up to 80 lb.
  • Requires good manual dexterity, coordination, and stamina.
  • Ascends/descends with gradual or continuous progress by oneself, using both hands and feet, and climbs up and down ladders and/or equipment.
  • Can maneuver safely and work underneath equipment.
