Overview

Duties include screening and assessing juveniles charged with Class C misdemeanors; developing case plans with juvenile offenders and their families; and making sentencing recommendations to assist prosecutors and judges during juvenile proceedings. The position initiates referrals to service providers to address behavioral, substance use, life skills, and safety challenges; coordinates with local agencies to provide counseling and human services support; and monitors compliance with court orders through home, school, and family contacts.

Responsibilities
  • Screen and assess juveniles charged with Class C misdemeanors and develop individualized case plans with offenders and families.
  • Make sentencing recommendations to prosecutors and judges during juvenile proceedings.
  • Initiate referrals to service providers addressing behavioral, substance use, life skills, and safety challenges.
  • Coordinate with local agencies to provide counseling and human services support.
  • Monitor compliance with court orders via home, school, and family contacts.
  • Administer the Court s Youth Diversion Program in compliance with the Texas Youth Diversion and Early Intervention Act (H.B. 3186), offering eligible juveniles diversion services prior to formal proceedings.
  • Perform Teen Court functions: enroll defendants, recruit and supervise volunteers, maintain docket scheduling and case dispositions, and establish community service partnerships.
  • Maintain case files and databases, prepare statistical and specialized reports.
  • Handle highly confidential information with discretion.
Qualifications
  • Bachelor s degree with major coursework in Criminal Justice, Sociology, Psychology, or Social Work and two years of court system experience or equivalent; experience with juvenile court programs or social services preferred.
  • Bilingual proficiency (English/Spanish) is highly beneficial.
  • Clerical and typing tests may be required.
  • Duties involve access to sensitive Criminal Justice Information Systems (CJIS), which requires a thorough background check. Candidates will be subject to a criminal history check.
  • Must not have any criminal conviction above the grade of a Class B misdemeanor or any Class B misdemeanor within the past 10 years; other convictions may also be considered.
