Lead Android Engineer

We’re looking for a hands-on Lead Android Engineer to help evolve and scale a recently launched Android app in Europe. This is a senior, technical leadership role where you’ll be deeply involved in day-to-day development, architecture decisions, and mentoring, while also helping modernize our build, release, and CI/CD processes.

You’ll work closely with product, backend, and other mobile engineers to define technical solutions, improve code quality, and ensure smooth releases as we move toward a more modern Android setup.

What You’ll Do (Day to Day)

• Participate in sprint ceremonies and lead technical standups
• Collaborate closely with product to define tickets with clear technical details
• Own and review PRs daily, with a strong focus on code quality and best practices
• Lead by example—mentoring developers and setting technical standards
• Work on modernizing the Android codebase (Jetpack Compose, architecture, testing)
• Plan and execute migrations, including:
• Moving toward a single-binary app in Google Play
• Migrating from APK to AAB
• Track production data and user journeys to identify pain points and drive improvements
• Partner with backend teams to unblock issues and validate end-to-end flows
• Support release planning (ownership of delivery, not release execution itself)

Technical Focus / Must-Have Skills

• 6+ years of Android development experience, including time in a lead role
• Strong hands-on experience with Kotlin
• Jetpack Compose (must-have)
• Solid understanding of MVVM architecture and dependency injection
• Strong focus on unit testing and improving test coverage
• Comfortable reviewing, refactoring, and defining clean, maintainable code
• Exposure to payment methods / payment flows is a plus

Dev Ops / CI-CD Experience (Highly Valued)

• Experience with CI/CD pipelines, ideally using Git Hub Actions
• Familiarity with Android build and distribution workflows
• Experience migrating from APK to AAB:
• Understanding assigned vs universal builds
• Reducing app size and improving delivery
• Ability to replace or improve manual build/release processes with CI/CD-driven workflows
• Someone who can help “set things up properly” and own the pipeline improvements
• Act as a technical lead, not just an individual contributor
• Mentor and guide engineers on best practices and modern Android development
• Own technical decision-making and raise code quality across the team
• Comfortable handling most aspects of the work independently
• Strong communication with product, backend, and stakeholders
