Embedded Software Senior Engineering Specialist

Overview

Lead an agile development team to design, develop, integrate, and test software features for embedded electronic controls used in Caterpillar's underground equipment, rotary blasthole drills, and hydraulic mining shovels. The role focuses on updating applications to the latest hardware and software architectures and positioning for future technology upgrades.

• Design, planning, and coordination of all levels of software required to build production flash files.
• Develop machine software features for both Real-Time and Linux operating systems.
• Define detailed software specifications and create subsystem diagrams and software libraries for integration.
• Integrate software features from models and libraries to create flash files.
• Integrate configuration and calibration data, develop test plans, and validate software.
• Lead deployment of SIL, AutoSAR, and interface standardization.
• Support and communicate software releases, including field and customer documentation for successful updates.
• Identify and resolve software defects; manage issue tracking.
• Lead software design reviews and drive commonality and reuse across machine applications.
• Use AI tools to improve development efficiency.

• Extensive experience with C programming language and MATLAB.
• Development of embedded software for electronically controlled mechanical systems.
• Experience with modeling tools such as MATLAB/Simulink in an embedded environment.
• Fundamental understanding of mobile machine operation, ideally construction equipment.
• Basic knowledge of Linux operating systems and data link communications.
• Experience with FMEA processes and electronic system failure modes.
• Proficiency with embedded software development tools (Git, debuggers, compilers).
• Strong communication, organizational, and time‑management skills.
• Advanced engineering degree in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Computer Science, or Computer Engineering.
• Ability to communicate technical information effectively with diverse groups.

• Leadership experience in a technical role.
• Experience resolving complex, multi‑component failures.
• Knowledge of AI tools for development efficiency.

• Full‑time onsite at the Mossville, IL office.
