Senior Leader – Simulation and Digital Twin for Autonomous Construction Sites

Your Work Shapes the World at Caterpillar Inc. You will lead the development of simulations and digital twins that support automation and robotics in construction.

Responsibilities
  • Establish a team in partnership with peers to develop and implement simulations and digital twins supporting automation and robotics.
  • Define and implement a futuristic roadmap for simulation, neural‑network based simulations, and digital twins.
  • Lead the charge on neural‑network based simulations and identify opportunities for simulation and digital twin support of robotics.
  • Hire and develop a team of simulation, software, and rendering/visualization engineers focused on VLA‑based robotics.
  • Work with management to bring statistical and neural‑network simulation expertise to Caterpillar.
  • Define the long‑term vision for robotics simulation and allied platform in collaboration with leadership.
  • Establish a multi‑year simulation and digital twin roadmap, supporting automation and robotics.
  • Translate business and autonomy requirements into simulation solutions.
  • Determine technologies and simulation capabilities needed for the future of robotics.
  • Collaborate closely with engineering, autonomy, controls, software, product teams, and enterprise data groups to ensure simulation solutions achieve business outcomes and integrate with existing systems.
  • Assess current simulation assets across Caterpillar and define the strategy to integrate, extend, or consolidate them into a cohesive digital ecosystem supporting robotics.
Qualifications
  • 10+ years of management experience in robotics, simulation, or software (start‑up preferred).
  • 8+ years in simulation, robotics or autonomy with direct experience deploying Omniverse‑based digital twins strongly preferred.
  • Solid background in construction, mining automation, and robotics preferred.
  • Very strong background in statistical and neural‑network simulation.
  • Track record of establishing new organizations.
  • Deep understanding of simulation architecture, robotics, model governance, verification/validation practices, and integration of simulations with real‑time data sources.
  • Proven ability to work with senior management to establish vision, strategy, and multi‑year roadmaps.
  • Excellent communication skills for translating complex technical concepts into actionable business insights.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Computer Science, Robotics, Mathematics, or a related discipline (Master’s or PhD preferred).
Additional Information

Relocation assistance will be provided.

Onsite work model, 5 days per week required.

Up to 15% travel may be required.
