Position Summary
Senior Software Full Stack Engineer role at Caris requires collaborating with Software Engineers, Architects, Engineering Managers, Directors, Product Managers (PMs), Software Quality Assurance (SQA) specialists, and Business Analysts (BAs) to develop both internal and external software and data solutions. Engineers are responsible for every phase of the application development lifecycle and possess comprehensive knowledge of enterprise data flow. The role involves designing and implementing scalable, secure, and interoperable systems that integrate with lab workflows and data pipelines.
Reporting to the Senior Manager of Clinical Software Engineering, the engineer will collaborate across teams to deliver high‑impact solutions aligned with business and regulatory goals.
- Work closely with the Software Engineering Manager and Business Stakeholders to deliver world‑class applications for Lab workflows including Pathology, Genetics and Quality Evidence teams.
- Observe HIPAA rules and regulations as laid down by the HIPAA Compliance Officer and follow organizational information security policies.
- Collaborate with the team in gathering new requirements, designing technical implementation, and converting designs into practical code and functional programs.
- Test developed functionality and support the Quality Assurance Team to ensure solutions are defect‑free.
- Monitor incident tickets, determine resolution priority by working with users, and document the resolution for future reference.
- Perform code reviews and offer constructive feedback. Collaborate with cloud operations and Dev Ops team members to support releases.
- Provide technical/engineering support for existing applications from code delivery until retirement, including defects fixes.
- Learn and implement best practices to enhance application quality and performance.
- Analyze and solve complex technical problems, ensuring code quality, performance, and scalability.
- Collaborate with product management and quality assurance to ensure seamless product delivery.
- Assist management in providing accurate timeline and resource estimates for product releases.
- Mentor and coach junior developers to improve their skills and productivity.
- Perform other related duties and special projects as required.
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or a similar discipline.
- 5‑7 years of experience with core Java concepts, enterprise‑level application development, and Spring Boot.
- Knowledge of Python programming and JavaScript, including Vue.js or React/SPA.
- Expertise in designing interactive applications with a focus on user engagement and seamless user experience.
- Excellent knowledge of relational databases, SQL, and ORM technologies (MySQL or PostgreSQL).
- Strong grasp of software design patterns, data structures, algorithms, and REST API design and integration.
- Experience implementing robust authentication mechanisms, encryption, and security protocols such as OIDC/OAuth 2.
- Proficiency in writing clean, maintainable, and efficient code with an iterative delivery mindset.
- Experience with unit test writing, execution, and maintenance.
- Work with Docker and Kubernetes (preferred).
- Proficiency with Git and CI/CD pipelines and Dev Ops practices.
- Experience with cloud services including AWS Lambda, SNS/SQS, S3, or analogous services in GCP or Azure.
- Understanding of agile methodologies and ability to thrive in an agile environment.
- Excellent problem‑solving and analytical thinking skills.
- Strong communication skills and collaborative attitude.
- Java EE certification.
- Experience with AI tools such as Cursor AI.
- Experience with Maven or similar build tools.
- Extensive experience crafting complex SQL queries for MySQL and PostgreSQL.
- Independent diagnosis, analysis, and resolution of complex application issues.
- HIPAA compliance expertise and commitment to patient outcome improvement.
- Ability to sit, stand, and work at a computer for extended periods.
