Maintenance Worker, Driver, General Labor

Duties include repairing and maintaining street infrastructure; setting up safety and traffic control systems for repair work; cleaning, servicing and maintaining assigned tools, machinery, equipment and vehicles; using basic equipment to perform repairs, e.g. jackhammer, rakes, and/or shovels; serving as a flagger to direct traffic around work zones; and removing refuse and debris from rights‑of‑way, medians and embankments.

Six months of related experience, the ability to read and write at a level necessary for successful job performance and basic computer skills are required. Must possess a valid Class C Texas driver’s license; and possess, or be able to obtain within six months, a valid Class A Texas Commercial Driver’s License (CDL).

Normal hours are Monday through Friday 7:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m., but schedule will also include some after‑hours, weekends and holidays.

PAY GRADE GG10 / FULL PAY RANGE $17.86 - $25.18 PER HOUR

The Transportation Department operates and maintains the city’s streets and traffic control devices. The department is split into two divisions:
Streets and Traffic.

TRAFFIC AND TRANSPORTATION / STREETS DIVISION
The Streets Division provides safe and well?maintained streets, alleys, sidewalks and drainage facilities for the use of citizens and residents.

TRAFFIC DIVISION
The Traffic Division plans, operates and maintains the transportation systems within the city of Irving in a safe, efficient and proactive manner.
