Heavy Haul Driver

This position operates heavy day cab trucks and multi‑axle trailers in the delivery of heavy construction machinery, industrial tractors and equipment, including the operation of heavy machinery during the on‑load and off‑load process. The position is responsible for the safe transportation of these assets to and from branch stores and customer job locations, while complying with company safety regulations and state laws.

This role delivers external and internal customer satisfaction.

Position Level
:
Mid‑level – requires more than five years of experience (or equivalent) and broad knowledge of industry standards and technical concepts.

• Travel required;
  Class A CDL required with a safe driving record.
• Large construction equipment operation for load & unload; 3 years verifiable experience required.
• Model, promote, reinforce, and reward the consistent use of HOLT’s Values‑Based Leadership tools, ensuring alignment with vision, values, and mission.
• Transport all equipment deliveries and pickups promptly, accurately, and efficiently while maintaining a positive, caring attitude.
• Secure equipment on the truck and ensure materials meet state and federal safety guidelines and vehicle capabilities; assist other departments when needed.
• Complete DOT daily logs accurately without misrepresentation.
• Complete daily inspection reports, recommend repairs or maintenance, and maintain a clean appearance of the assigned vehicle.
• Submit all related documentation accurately and on time (rental agreements, equipment check‑out/check‑in reports, return receipts, pickup receipts, permits, etc.) to support business systems and goals.
• Maintain clean, safe shop appearance, staging area, tools, parts, inventory, and personal hygiene to ensure a safe working environment and excellent customer satisfaction.
• Perform pre‑ and post‑vehicle inspections; inspect truck for defects and safe operating condition before, during, and after delivery trips.
• Maintain regular and punctual attendance.
• Work safely at all times and comply with all applicable safety policies, company procedures, and standards.
• Perform other duties as assigned.

• Sound knowledge of construction equipment operation, industrial engines, transportation, and safe driving procedures.
• Knowledge of Motor Carrier Safety Regulations/DOT guidelines.
• Proficiency with current computer software, related hardware, and machine electronic systems.
• Knowledge of machines and tools, including their designs, uses, repair, and maintenance.
• Understanding of principles and processes for providing customer and personal services, including customer needs assessment, quality standards, and evaluation of customer satisfaction.
• Quality control analysis skills – conducting tests and inspections of products, services, or processes.
• Operation and control skills – controlling operations of equipment or systems.
• Equipment selection skills – determine the type of tools and equipment needed for a job.
• Ability to adjust machine or vehicle controls quickly and precisely.
• Ability to read maps and operate GPS systems.
• Maintenance of a clean driver’s record and diligent attention to safety.
• Operation of hand tools, power tools, and equipment used in mechanical repair.
• Dexterous manipulation of small objects.
• Reading and understanding written information.
• Listening to and understanding oral information.

• Education and Experience
  • Valid Texas Driver’s License with Class A CDL required.
  • Five years of verifiable heavy haul driving experience required (over eight years preferred).
  • Three years’ verifiable driving experience operating.
  • Operation of 7‑ or 8‑axle configuration truck required; five or more preferred.
• Supervisory Responsibilities – None.
• Travel – up to 100%.
• Physical Requirements
  • Remain stationary 100% of the time.
  • Move objects and use abdominal and lower‑back muscles to support activities without fatigue.
  • Frequently move materials or equipment weighing up to 50 pounds.
  • Maintain good manual dexterity, coordination, and stamina.
  • Ascend/descend with gradual or continuous progress, using both hands and feet; climb up and down ladders.
  • Safely maneuver and work underneath equipment.
  • React visually to signals, alarms, and instructions.
• Work Environment
  • Work in a closed vehicle or equipment.
  • Wear common protective or safety equipment.
  • Work outdoors, exposed to all weather conditions.
  • Exposure to noise levels that are distracting or uncomfortable.
  • Exposure to small quantities of chemicals, steam, high‑pressure water, and high‑speed rotating equipment.
  • Significant time in confined spaces or high places.
