The Router/Dispatcher is the operational control point for fuel delivery execution, responsible for building safe, efficient, and cost-effective routes for residential keep-fill and will-call, commercial, and industrial accounts. This role uses tank-monitoring data, degree-day and usage forecasts, and real-time field communication to sequence deliveries, assign drivers and vehicles, and keep the delivery day on track. The Router/Dispatcher serves as the primary communication link among drivers, customer care, sales, and field operations, and is responsible for adapting routes in real time in response to weather, road conditions, equipment issues, and emergency or no-heat calls.
The ideal candidate is detail-oriented, a strong cross-functional communicator, decisive under pressure, and comfortable using routing, dispatch, and tank-monitoring technology to keep deliveries safe, on time, and cost-effective.
- Daily route build and stop sequencing for all trucks and drivers on shift
- Real-time re-routing decisions in response to weather, breakdowns, or emergency/no-heat calls
- Driver-to-route assignments for the shift
- Prioritization of will-call, keep-fill, and emergency deliveries within the delivery day
- Route reviews and delivery-exception documentation
- Daily hours-of-service (HOS) and route-feasibility check prior to dispatching drivers
- Strong cross-functional communication across the organization with Commercial, Operations and Finance stakeholders
- Keep-fill scheduling accuracy (tank telemetry, K-factor/degree-day calculations) – shared with Customer Care, which manages will-call orders
- Route efficiency metrics (route adherence, gallons per mile) – reported to the Operations Manager
- Delivery-window commitments for commercial and industrial accounts – coordinated with Industrial and Commercial Regional Account Management
- Seasonal, peak-season capacity planning input – shared with the Operations Manager and Territory Director
- Daily monitoring & upkeep of routing/dispatch software and tank-monitoring platform
- High school diploma or GED required; coursework in logistics, supply chain, or transportation a plus.
