Overview

Our client, an industry leader in engineering and construction, is seeking a Project Engineer to join their team. As a Project Engineer, you will be part of the Engineering Department supporting project development and execution teams. The ideal candidate will demonstrate strong communication skills, problem-solving abilities, and a proactive mindset, which will align successfully within the organization.

Job Title: Senior Project Engineer

Location: Irwindale, California

This role requires a strong foundation in mechanical and electrical engineering, with hands-on experience in CAD tools, prototyping, testing, and interpreting complex technical drawings. Engineers in this role contribute to the development of products used in water quality monitoring, industrial automation, and environmental control systems.

Responsibilities
  • Conduct fundamental and applied research to improve or generate new products, components, equipment, systems, tests, requirements, and processes.
  • Drive projects by maintaining focus across disciplines and functions on key design aspects, customer needs, system requirements, testing, product growth, and technological trends.
  • Apply deep knowledge across multiple engineering disciplines to lead product innovation and development.
  • Assemble and test prototypes, integrating mechanical and electrical components.
  • Interpret and create detailed mechanical and electrical drawings and schematics.
  • Sustain and support designs across the entire product life cycle.
  • Communicate and collaborate clearly both verbally and in writing.
Required Skills/Abilities
  • Proficiency in CAD tools (
    Siemens NX preferred or Solid Works
    ), Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Familiarity with 3D printing technologies and rapid prototyping.
  • Hands-on experience assembling and troubleshooting electromechanical prototypes, preferably sensors.
  • Hands-on experience in assembly, machining, soldering, and related fabrication techniques for electromechanical component development and testing.
  • Experience in testing electromechanical sensors and systems in automation and control systems programming (e.g., PLCs).
  • Experience with sensor design and integration is a strong plus.
  • Experience in designing water quality monitoring equipment or components is preferred.
  • Multi-disciplinary engineering expertise with a strong foundation in mechanical, electrical, and flow mechanics.
  • Be able and willing to work in a fast-paced, agile product development environment—wear multiple hats, be resourceful, and take initiative to get the job done with minimal supervision.
Education and Experience
  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Mechatronics, or related field.
  • 5+ years of relevant industrial experience in product development, preferably in sensor and automation industries.
  • Experience with prototype development and CAD-based design required.
