Job Summary

The Purchasing Agent/Buyer is responsible for sourcing, negotiating, and procuring materials, equipment, and services required for metal roofing operations. This role ensures cost-effective purchasing while maintaining quality standards, supplier reliability, and timely delivery to support production and project schedules.

This position is in-person preferred, with the possibility of remote work.

• Source and purchase metal roofing materials such as steel coils, aluminum sheets, fasteners, coatings, insulation, and accessories.
• Develop and maintain relationships with suppliers, mills, and distributors.
• Negotiate pricing, contracts, and terms to achieve cost savings and favorable conditions.
• Monitor inventory levels and coordinate with warehouse and production teams to maintain optimal stock.
• Issue purchase orders and track order status to ensure on‑time delivery.
• Evaluate supplier performance based on quality, pricing, and delivery reliability.
• Stay informed on market trends, including metal pricing fluctuations (steel, aluminum, etc.).
• Collaborate with project managers and estimators to forecast material needs.
• Resolve issues related to delays, shortages, or defective materials.
• Ensure compliance with company policies and industry regulations.

• Understanding of metal markets (steel, aluminum pricing trends).
• Ability to read construction drawings and material takeoffs.
• Experience with inventory management systems.
• Analytical mindset with cost‑control focus.
• Ability to work in a fast‑paced, deadline‑driven environment.

• Office‑based with frequent communication with suppliers and internal teams.
• Occasional visits to warehouses, job sites, or supplier facilities.
• May require extended hours during peak construction seasons.

• High school diploma or GED is required.
• Minimum of two (2) years of purchasing / procurement experience is preferred.
• Manufacturing administrative support experience is preferred.
• Must be PC proficient and have a good understanding of Microsoft Office products, e‑mail, and Internet use.
• Strong customer service skills.
• Ability to resolve problems both internally and externally with customers.
• Ability to think conceptually and produce desired results.
• A combination of education and experience may be qualifying.
