Overview

The DC Area Supervisor leads an hourly team and influences the distribution team to complete fast-paced work to run the distribution center efficiently, safely, and productively. This role handles management responsibilities for team members and is responsible for ensuring prompt, efficient, and accurate handling of merchandise, as well as developing and implementing team goals. This role has management responsibilities for 20 to 30 hourly associates.

Key Responsibilities
  • Managing Process (approx. 45%):
    Ensure operations procedures are followed effectively and identify and recommend changes to the Operations Manager and/or Assistant General Manager on standardized processes. Evaluate and analyze current work methods and recommend ways to eliminate inefficiencies.
  • Coaching and Developing Associates (approx. 25%):
    Guide associates in daily operations, monitor productivity, safety, service, and quality. Train, coach, and provide feedback to hourly associates; perform regular evaluations using factual data and observations. Provide coaching and counseling on job performance, and resolve associate relations issues. Responsible for hiring, compensation, discipline, and terminations of hourly associates in the assigned department; investigate operational errors and recommend corrective action where needed.
  • Drives Results (approx. 15%):
    Maintain inventory accuracy and control; review reports and identify areas for improvement in productivity, accuracy, quality, and expenses.
  • Business Planning (approx. 15%):
    Coordinate and monitor operations to ensure performance production rates align with the business plan, reducing irregularities and damages. Review reports and metrics to analyze and plan staffing needs for optimal department operations.
  • Other Duties:
    Perform additional responsibilities as assigned by the Operations Manager, Assistant General Manager, or General Manager.
Direct Manager / Direct Reports
  • Typically reports to the Operations Manager.
  • Accountable for direct supervision of others, including planning, monitoring, and reviewing work. May include direct supervision of a shift or coordination of multiple work groups. Makes recommendations concerning selection, termination, performance appraisal, and professional development.
Travel Requirements
  • Typically requires overnight travel less than 10% of the time.
Physical Requirements
  • Requires intermittent periods of physical exertion such as walking, standing, stooping, climbing, lifting material or equipment, some of which may be heavy or awkward.
Working Conditions
  • Located in a comfortable indoor area. Any unpleasant conditions would be infrequent and not objectionable.
Minimum Qualifications
  • Must be eighteen years of age or older.
  • Must be legally permitted to work in the United States.
  • Flexibility to work various shifts.
  • Ability to relocate.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree.
  • Computer skills in software including Microsoft Office.
  • Experience with Warehouse Management Systems.
  • 3+ years supervisory experience in a related field.
