The manager is accountable for overall management and leadership of a unit or group of patient care units within Nursing Services. The manager is responsible for all clinical and operational activities of the units in accordance with Swedish Medical Center's mission, vision, and values.

Department Overview- Labor and Delivery: 10 labor beds + Antepartum rooms
- OB ED: 6 beds total
- OB ORs: 2 operating rooms
- Births:
Approximately 180 per month / 2,200 per year - Deliveries: 31 weeks or 1500 grams
- NICU:
Level 2 - Teams: OB Hospitalists, OB groups, Midwifery, MFM
- 24/7 Services:
Anesthesia, OB Hospitalist and Neonatology
- Ensure 24‑hour patient care provision and coordinate daily patient care delivery with other healthcare team members.
- Establish and enforce patient care and nursing practice standards; develop, implement, and monitor unit‑based quality improvement programs.
- Assure compliance with department standards, evaluate patient care delivery, and enact corrective actions for identified problems.
- Assess patient assignments, evaluate patient and family satisfaction, conduct rounds, and intervene as needed.
- Act as patient advocate to clarify ethical and legal issues and support cultural practices.
- Track staff turnover and take steps to reduce turnover among the team.
- Spend time on all shifts to assess care, coach, develop, evaluate, and advocate for staff.
- Collaborate with the clinical nurse specialist and/or educator to identify and implement educational programs for all staff levels.
Job Requirements
We seek an engaged, personable leader who collaborates with the L&D and Women & Children (W&C) leadership teams, sharing responsibility for quality, finance, staffing, and patient and caregiver experience. The role reports to the W&C Senior Director.
Top Priorities and Goals- Focus on quality metrics and perinatal outcomes, including NTSV, L&D OR, PPH, and OB Emergency department; collaborate with the L&D team for sustained improvement.
- Partner with CNS, Perinatal Educator, and team on evidence‑based practice changes; interview and hire experienced RNs and residency/fellowship program candidates for L&D.
- Maintain clinical competence by assisting with patient care to preserve skill level.
- Bachelor's Degree BSN from an accredited nursing school, or ADN plus commitment to obtain BSN within two years of hire.
- Washington Registered Nurse License upon hire.
- National Provider BLS (American Heart Association) upon hire.
- At least 3 years recent experience in a related clinical nursing area.
- Must meet criteria of Registered Nurse.
- Master's Degree in Nursing or related field.
- At least 1 year first‑line management experience.
