The manager is accountable for the overall management and leadership of a unit or a group of patient care units within Nursing Services. The manager is responsible for all clinical and operational activities of the units in accordance with Swedish Medical Center's mission, vision, and values.
Department Overview- Labor and Delivery: 10 labor beds
- OB ED: 6 beds total
- OB ORs: 2 operating rooms
- Births:
Approximately 200 per month - Deliveries:
Starting from 32 weeks gestation
- Ensure 24-hour patient care provision and coordinate daily patient care delivery.
- Establish and enforce standards of patient care and nursing practice.
- Develop, implement, and monitor unit-based quality improvement programs and goals.
- Assure compliance with department standards, evaluating delivery of patient care and taking corrective action.
- Conduct rounds and assess patient/family satisfaction, intervening accordingly.
- Serve as patient advocate, evaluating ethical or legal issues and supporting cultural practices.
- Track staff turnover and implement retention strategies.
- Maintain clinical competence by assisting with patient care, coaching, evaluating, and advocating for staff.
- Collaborate with clinical nurse specialist and/or educator to develop and implement educational programs for all staff levels.
- Address grievances up to step-two level.
Job Requirements
We seek an engaged, personable leader who can collaborate with the L&D and Women & Children (W&C) leadership teams, share responsibility for quality, finance, staffing, and patient experience, and report to the W&C Senior Director.
Required Qualifications- Bachelor’s Degree BSN from an accredited nursing school, or ADN with commitment to obtain BSN within two years of hire.
- Washington Registered Nurse License upon hire.
- National Provider BLS certification (American Heart Association) upon hire.
- 3 years recent experience in a related clinical area of nursing.
- Must meet criteria of Registered Nurse.
- Master’s Degree Nursing or related field.
- 1 year first‑line management experience.
