Floater Shelter Advocate

Mary's Place Seattle seeks a compassionate Floater Shelter Advocate to support families experiencing homelessness across multiple shelter sites. Reporting to Community & Social Services, you will provide trauma-informed advocacy, safety monitoring, conflict de-escalation, and basic case support. Responsibilities include welcoming guests, coordinating daily activities, assisting with life skills workshops, maintaining clean, safe shared spaces, documenting interactions, and connecting families with internal and community resources.

Responsibilities

• Provide trauma-informed advocacy and day-to-day support to shelter guests
• Float between shelter locations to cover staffing needs and support operations
• Monitor safety, respond to incidents, and use de-escalation techniques
• Assist with intake, orientation, and guest check-in/check-out procedures
• Coordinate and support daily activities and life skills programming
• Maintain clean, safe, and welcoming common areas
• Document guest interactions and incidents accurately in required systems
• Collaborate with case managers and volunteers to connect guests with resources
• Communicate shelter guidelines with empathy and consistency
• Model inclusive, respectful, and culturally responsive practices
