We are seeking a hands‑on Mechanical Design Engineer to support cradle‑to‑grave product development for commercial door hardware products. This role is responsible for the design, development, testing, documentation, and manufacturing support of new products ranging from exit devices and hinges to other commercial door hardware components and systems.

The ideal candidate will have strong mechanical design skills, experience creating detailed engineering drawings, and the ability to work cross‑functionally with Sales, Marketing, Purchasing, Manufacturing, Vendors, and Customers. This position requires a practical engineer who is comfortable both in the office and on the manufacturing floor, helping develop new products and supporting production implementation.

Main Responsibilities

Design and develop new commercial door hardware products from concept through production release

Create detailed part, assembly, and manufacturing drawings using Solid Works

Develop prototypes and conduct product testing to verify performance against design requirements

Participate in product validation, cycle testing, and troubleshooting of mechanical systems

Work closely with Sales and Marketing to understand customer needs and product requirements

Collaborate with Purchasing and Vendors on component sourcing, manufacturability, and cost reduction opportunities

Support Manufacturing by developing assembly methods, work instructions, and production improvements

Spend time on the manufacturing floor learning current processes and assisting with implementation of new products

Train and support manufacturing personnel on assembly and production of newly released products

Investigate product issues and develop corrective design solutions

Maintain engineering documentation, bills of materials, and revision control

Participate in continuous improvement efforts for both products and manufacturing processes

Skills

Strong mechanical design and problem‑solving abilities

Proficiency in Solid Works 3D modeling and drawing creation

Understanding of manufacturing processes and assembly methods

Ability to create clear and accurate engineering drawings and documentation

Strong communication and interpersonal skills

Ability to manage multiple projects and priorities

Hands‑on mindset with willingness to work directly on the manufacturing floor

Strong attention to detail

Ability to work effectively across multiple departments and with external vendors/customers

Experience

Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or related field preferred

Minimum of 3 years of mechanical engineering or product design experience

Experience with product development and testing

Experience working with manufacturing and production environments

Knowledge of mechanical assemblies, tolerancing, and production documentation

Experience in commercial door hardware or related mechanical products is a plus
