The Operations Specialist II is responsible for managing and optimizing complex freight forwarding operations across AIT Worldwide Logistics' global network. They oversee end-to-end shipment execution across air, ocean, and ground transportation, ensuring efficient, cost‑effective, and customer‑focused logistics solutions. They handle high‑value and complex shipments, proactively identify and resolve operational issues, mitigate risks, and ensure compliance with international trade regulations. They serve as a key advisor to customers and internal teams, translating customer requirements into customized logistics solutions that support AIT's consultative, customer‑first approach while driving operational excellence.
Responsibilities- End-to-End Shipment Execution
- Manage international and domestic shipments across air, ocean, and ground modes from booking through final delivery.
- Coordinate routing, carrier selection, and scheduling to ensure on‑time, cost‑effective delivery.
- Oversee documentation including bills of lading, customs paperwork, invoices, and shipping instructions.
- Customer & Account Management
- Serve as a primary point of contact for assigned accounts, ensuring a high level of service and responsiveness.
- Proactively communicate shipment status, resolve delays, and manage exceptions.
- Build strong client relationships and identify opportunities to expand service offerings.
- Carrier & Vendor Coordination
- Negotiate rates and capacity with carriers, airlines, trucking providers, and other logistics partners.
- Maintain strong vendor relationships to support service reliability and cost optimization.
- Monitor carrier performance and enforce service‑level agreements.
- Compliance & Regulatory Oversight
- Ensure adherence to international trade regulations, customs requirements, and company policies.
- Support audits, maintain documentation accuracy, and mitigate risk related to import/export activity.
- Stay current on evolving logistics regulations and best practices.
- Operational Excellence & Problem Solving
- Analyze shipment data, KPIs, and operational metrics to identify improvement opportunities.
- Troubleshoot service failures, resolve escalations, and implement corrective actions.
- Drive continuous improvement initiatives aligned with AIT's high‑performance culture.
- Leadership & Collaboration
- Partner cross‑functionally with pricing, sales, customs brokerage, warehousing, and finance teams.
- Contribute to process improvements, SOP development, and operational training.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
- Complies with all policies and standards.
Education
High School Diploma or GED with 6 years of work experience in a relevant field (required) or Bachelor's Degree in Logistics, Supply Chain, Business, or a related field (preferred).
Experience
3+ years of experience in freight forwarding, logistics, or transportation operations (required). 2+ years of experience with import/export documentation and customs compliance (preferred).
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
- Strong understanding of multimodal transportation (air, ocean, ground) and global shipping processes.
- Proficiency with logistics systems, ERP/TMS platforms, and Microsoft Office.
- Work experience in a global 3PL or freight forwarding environment.
- Knowledge of specialized verticals such as life sciences, high‑tech, automotive.
- Problem‑solving and decision‑making skills.
- Effective communication and cross‑functional collaboration.
- Strong organizational and multitasking capabilities in a fast‑paced environment.
- Customer‑centric mindset with strong relationship‑management skills.
