Job Description & How to Apply Below
Build What Protects the Digital World
Location:
Itasca, IL Compensation: $22–$28/hr (up to $30/hr based on experience) + significant overtime
Schedule:
1st Shift | 5:00 AM – 4:30 PM (typical), plus Saturdays as needed
Employment Type:
Contract-to-Hire (strong long-term potential)
A Day in This Role You clock in at 5:00 AM at a confidential, rapidly expanding manufacturer known for delivering custom industrial enclosures to high-profile data center projects. Blueprints in hand, you lay out material, verify measurements with tape, calipers, and micrometers, and begin the fit-up. By mid-morning, your MIG torch is laying precise beads on both sheet and structural members.
You use an overhead crane to position large assemblies, confirm alignment and squareness, and complete the full cycle: layout fit-up weld assembly. Before the day ends, you double-check tolerances and structural integrity so the enclosure performs flawlessly in a critical infrastructure environment.
Why This Isn’t Typical Production Welding Custom, engineered builds—no assembly line monotony
Company is scaling from ~$30M to ~$80M+ in active orders
Work tied to global tech leaders and large-scale data center infrastructure
100+ years of history with the momentum of a fast-growing team
What You’ll DoPerform MIG welding on sheet metal and structural components
Read and interpret complex mechanical blueprints for large assemblies
Measure, cut, and fit materials to tight tolerances
Execute full-cycle fabrication: layout, fit-up, welding, and assembly
Use saws, grinders, drills, and precision measuring tools
Operate overhead cranes and shop equipment safely
Verify alignment and structural integrity of custom-built enclosures
What You Bring3–5+ years of welding/fabrication experience (non-production preferred)
Strong blueprint reading skills (experience with large assemblies is a plus)
Proficiency with tape measures, calipers, and micrometers
Demonstrated ability to weld to tight tolerances
MIG required; TIG experience is a plus Hands-on fabrication mindset beyond repetitive welding
Mechanical assembly experience is highly preferred
Willingness to work overtime (up to 60–65 hrs/week when ramped)
Environment & Growth Mix of indoor and outdoor work depending on project
Team is scaling—adding new hires weekly
Strong chance of long-term conversion; many contractors stay beyond 6 months
Facilities and capabilities are expanding—grow with the business
What’s In It for You Reliable overtime and strong earning potential
Exposure to large-scale, custom engineering projects
Stability of a 100+ year company in a major growth phase
Meaningful craftsmanship—your work directly impacts critical systems
Interview Process One-step onsite interview
Fast feedback, typically within 48 hours
Who Thrives Here Builders who love precision and detail
Pros who want steady hours, strong pay, and stability
Teammates open to overtime and a contract-to-hire path
If you want to build real systems—not just run beads—this is your next move.
