Compliance Specialist II

Department: Quality/Regulatory, Distribution
Location: Itasca, IL
Type: Full‑time

Summary

This position works within the supply chain for food, beverage, and supplement ingredients. It collaborates with regulatory and quality teams to fulfill and review product documentation, customer inquiries, and supporting documentation, adhering to FSMA regulations. Key activities include day‑to‑day research on international, federal, state, local, and internal regulatory requirements; customer interactions; and cross‑functional collaboration.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities
  • Research vendor data, internal systems, and government online sites to gather information for customer inquiries.
  • Create and maintain databases to support raw materials data management.
  • Review raw materials for compliance with applicable regulations, customer requirements, and industry guidelines.
  • Issue questionnaires and documentation to customers, supporting product approval.
  • Assist and implement updates across multiple computer platforms.
  • Manage key customer accounts for product and manufacturer approvals.
  • Strive for complete internal and external customer satisfaction.
  • Format and create regulatory documents.
  • Maintain working knowledge of FDA regulations.
  • Interpret regulatory information accurately.
  • Manage multiple deadlines and projects simultaneously.
  • Exhibit excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Apply strong understanding of FDA cGMP, HACCP, FSMA regulations, QA programs, FSVP compliance, and GFSI standards.
  • Other duties as assigned.
Qualifications

Required

Education and Experience
  • Associate's degree or higher in Food Science, Nutrition, Biology, Chemistry, or a related science discipline, or proven regulatory compliance experience in the food & beverage industry.
  • Minimum of two years’ food regulatory experience.
  • Quality experience is a plus.

  • Proficiency with Microsoft Outlook, Word, Excel, and related platforms.

Physical Requirements
  • View a computer screen and type for extended hours.

  • Work around a variety of smells and aromas.
  • Adjust work schedule as business needs require.
Quality and Safety Responsibilities

All employees must ensure compliance with food safety, food defense, and quality standards (FDA, ILDPH, FSMA, BRC) and occupational safety and health standards (OSHA) to protect themselves and others.
