Carrier Sales Representative is responsible for building and maintaining strong relationships with transportation providers. This role focuses on sourcing reliable capacity, negotiating rates, and ensuring seamless execution of shipments. Success in this role comes from being proactive, detail-oriented, and highly skilled at communication and problem-solving.
Carrier Sales serves as the backbone of the brokerage by ensuring freight moves smoothly and profitably while upholding Precision Freight’s standards of transparency and reliability.
Responsibilities- Source, qualify, and onboard carriers to support customer freight needs.
- Negotiate rates with carriers to maximize profitability while ensuring service quality.
- Maintain strong relationships with carrier partners to secure capacity in both spot and contractual markets.
- Track market trends and pricing fluctuations to provide accurate, competitive rate guidance.
- Collaborate with customer sales and operations teams to ensure timely pickup, transit, and delivery of shipments.
- Resolve service issues quickly and effectively, maintaining communication with both internal teams and carrier partners.
- Utilize TMS, load boards, and internal tools to post, cover, and manage loads.
- Proactively identify opportunities to expand Precision Freight’s carrier base.
- Uphold compliance by ensuring carriers meet all safety, insurance, and regulatory requirements.
- Contribute to a positive and collaborative team culture through communication and knowledge-sharing.
- Minimum of 1 year of experience as a Carrier Sales Representative or in a similar logistics role.
- Analytical mindset with ability to assess market data and make informed pricing decisions.
- Demonstrated problem-solving skills and ability to remain calm under pressure.
- Self-motivated with a strong work ethic and commitment to team success.
- Strong negotiation, communication, and relationship-building skills.
- Ability to multitask, prioritize, and thrive in a fast-paced environment.
- Knowledge around managing various types of shipments, including hotshots, FTL, and LTL.
- Proficiency in transportation management systems (TMS), load boards, and Microsoft Office Suite.
- Ability to commute to Itasca, IL for daily operations.
