Faculty Administrative Assistant

The Opportunity

This role provides high-level administrative support to Cornell Law School faculty in their teaching, research, and service work. Responsibilities include managing complex administrative tasks such as drafting correspondence, editing materials, coordinating events, maintaining websites, and assisting with class and workshop preparation. The position also handles travel coordination and reimbursement processing for faculty and visitors. Additionally, the assistant serves as a key liaison between faculty, students, staff, the University, and external organizations.

About the Law School

Founded in 1887, Cornell Law School is a top-tier law school. We offer a 3-year JD program for about 200 students per class, a one-year LLM program for about 90 students from countries throughout the world, and a doctoral (JSD) program for about 2-3 new students per year. Cornell Law School has 41 tenured and tenure-track faculty, including 20 with chaired faculty positions;

and 15 clinical professors in the legal research and writing program and in clinics at the local, national, and international level. Our faculty is consistently ranked among the top in the country for scholarly productivity and influence, and has pre-eminence in many areas, including quantitative and qualitative empirical legal studies, international and comparative law, and robust doctrinal scholarship in core fields.

Key Responsibilities

* Provide high-level administrative support to multiple faculty members, including permanent, visiting, and adjunct professors.

* Proofread, edit, and format a wide range of academic and professional materials such as correspondence, manuscripts, research papers, and course documents.

* Coordinate faculty events, including scheduling venues, managing invitations and RSVPs, arranging catering, and overseeing event logistics.

* Manage faculty calendars, schedule meetings, and serve as a liaison between faculty, students, and other stakeholders.

* Maintain confidentiality and handle sensitive documents and information appropriately.

* Update faculty profiles, CVs, and course content on the Law School website and learning platforms like Canvas.

* Assist with course preparation, including gathering materials, creating seating charts, ordering supplies, and preparing syllabi and course packets.

* Support classroom administration, including exam preparation, student review processes, and managing course budgets.

* Conduct research support tasks such as organizing data, preparing spreadsheets, managing bibliographies, and securing copyrights.

* Assist with faculty travel arrangements, including booking travel, processing reimbursements, and tracking expenses.

* Monitor research accounts and Workday entries, ensuring accuracy in reporting and student assistant time approvals.

* Perform general office duties such as copying, scanning, mailing, purchasing supplies, and maintaining office organization.

* Ensure compliance with university policies and support faculty in following administrative procedures.

* Provide backup support to other administrative staff and participate in additional projects as needed.

* Learn and use new software systems to support administrative and academic functions.
