Lynah Rink Manager

Student and Campus Life (SCL) inspires transformation in all Cornell students on their journey of individual, academic and personal evolution. Our division is comprised of leading student affairs experts who support our campus on pressing student life matters including public service, health, wellbeing, connection and belonging, residential living, food services, sports, recreation, career services, and student activities and organizations including sorority and fraternity life.

We provide support and services to roughly 25,000 undergraduate, graduate, and professional students on multiple campuses in the U.S. and abroad.

Reporting both through Athletics and Student & Campus Life (SCL) Facilities, the Lynah Rink Manager provides comprehensive operational, technical, and administrative leadership for Cornell's historic ice rink for Cornell's Big Red. The primary mission of this role is to ensure that Cornell's varsity athletic programs have access to an exceptional ice surface and a facility that reflects the standards of an elite Division I program.

Cornell Men's and Women's Hockey are both storied programs consistently competing in the top ten nationally – supporting their success on the ice is at the heart of this position.

The Lynah Rink Manager is also responsible for stewarding Lynah Rink as a shared community asset serving a wide array of constituents:
Physical Education, club sports, intramurals, recreational skaters, and external community users. Managing the competing demands and schedules of these groups with fairness, diplomacy, and organizational precision is one of the most consequential aspects of the role. An increasingly important dimension of this position includes working closely with Athletic and Facilities leadership to identify and support new opportunities for rentals, special events and other activities that enhance utilization and generate additional revenue as well as ensuring these opportunities are executed effectively and in a manner that maintains high standards, functionality and user experiences for which Lynah Rink is known for.

This includes participating in the development and execution of sustainability and facility improvement plans that allow Lynah to remain competitive, well-maintained, and positioned for future investment.

This position requires working evenings, weekends, and holidays as needed by the event and competition schedule.

While position responsibilities vary, every member of our community is expected to foster a culture of belonging and a healthy work environment by communicating across differences; being cooperative, collaborative, open, and welcoming; showing respect, compassion, and empathy; engaging and supporting others regardless of background or perspective; speaking up when others are being excluded or treated inappropriately; and supporting work/life integration of oneself and others.

Success Factors:

  • Maintains a strong service orientation and commitment to excellence, ensuring a positive experience for all facility users while upholding the standards of a premier Division I venue.
  • Ability to build strong, collaborative relationships with Athletics, Facilities, campus partners, and community users to effectively balance competing needs and priorities.
  • Demonstrates sound judgment, diplomacy, and adaptability when navigating complex scheduling, operational challenges, and stakeholder requests.
  • Takes initiative to identify opportunities for improvement, increased utilization, and operational efficiencies while successfully managing change and competing demands.

Required Qualifications:

  • Demonstrated technical proficiency or experience with ice resurfacing equipment, refrigeration systems, and/or rink mechanical infrastructure.
