This is a 10.5 month position, the employee will be off the month of June and 2 weeks in January.
Hiring budget for this position is between $65,553 - $73,016/annual and an offer will be based on the finalist's experience.
This is a full time, 40 hour/week, on campus position (within daily commuting distance from Ithaca, NY). Some hybrid activities are possible, but the employee will be expected to be on campus regularly and frequently. Fully remote work is not available for this position.
Who we are:
The Office of Faculty Development & Diversity (OFDD) provides a range of resources and programs, including training and support for individual faculty, department chairs, and deans, in the areas of faculty development and diversity. OFDD works with faculty, chairs, and search committees to improve recruitment and retention practices and to increase diversity in faculty hiring. The office provides guidance to the academic leadership and to individual faculty members on mentoring and the tenure and promotion processes.
OFDD also offers professional development programming and grants opportunities for faculty and academic staff.
Purpose and Goals:
Reporting to the Senior Associate Vice Provost, the Curriculum and Program Development Specialist will collaborate with other units (Graduate School, Center for Teaching Innovation and the Cornell Interactive Theater Ensemble), and be responsible for working with faculty and academic leaders to support faculty, and specifically early career faculty, assess department climate, and design and deliver concrete plans and programs to address areas of concern and enhance areas of strength.
The Curriculum and Program Development Specialist will facilitate and co-facilitate ongoing programs offered by OFDD, e.g. search committee workshops, mentoring faculty workshops and programs in collaboration with other campus units.
Responsibilities:
With overall direction from the SAVP OFDD, this position will assist with the development of programs and facilitation for new dialogue & leadership programs for Cornell faculty by:
* identifying and connecting faculty with support resources for professional development opportunities.
* developing and facilitating tailored workshops for faculty mentoring graduate students and other faculty.
* facilitating conversations around best practices and action plans to sustain or improve department climate to support faculty in creating a culture of excellence and belonging.
* facilitating search committee workshops.
* developing and delivering workshops at the new faculty orientation.
Required Qualifications:
Master's degree in Social Work, Human Development, Psychology or Education, Communication, or a related field with at least 3 years of experience in curriculum development and program management, or an equivalent combination of education and experience required.
* Demonstrated ability to collaborate and partner with a variety of constituents across the university.
* Excellent communication skills (oral, written and presentation).
* Experience facilitating complex conversations
* Familiarity and experience working with faculty (tenure track and non-tenure track (RTE)).
* Understanding of the role of academic leadership in supporting faculty and the academic leaders need to be effective in their roles (chairs, deans, associate deans).
* Demonstrated knowledge of existing research and literature in the areas of faculty development, campus climate, and department cultures.
Preferred:
* PhD or EdD or JD preferred.
