Position: CTI - Instructional Designer, Learning Technologies (Hybrid)
The Opportunity

Cornell University is seeking an Instructional Designer - Learning Technologies to help faculty adapt teaching and learning for the AI era.

In this highly collaborative role, you will partner directly with faculty to design courses, integrate AI-focused emerging technologies , and enhance student learning experiences. You'll serve as both a consultant and innovator, helping instructors navigate evolving tools, redesign assessments, and experiment with new approaches to teaching in an AI-driven landscape.

This role sits within the Center for Teaching Innovation (CTI)-a dynamic team dedicated to advancing evidence-based, student-centered learning at Cornell.

Responsibilities include:

* Design and implement instructional technology strategies across diverse academic programs and initiatives.

* Analyze faculty and staff satisfaction to identify and track evolving technology needs.

* Collaborate with clients to address teaching-related technology issues, including pedagogy, application assessment, and integration strategies.

* Consult with learning technology teams to develop tailored solutions for academic units and departments.

* Conduct research and devise creative workarounds to resolve complex instructional technology challenges.

* Serve as instructional design lead for specific AI learning technology uses when needed.

* Serve as instructional design lead for specific learning technology services as needed.

* Research and pilot emerging AI technologies, partnering with faculty to ensure classroom tools remain current and relevant.

About the Department

The Center for Teaching Innovation (CTI) is a unit in the Office of the Vice-Provost for Academic Innovation (VPAI). The CTI's mission is to partner with the Cornell teaching community to explore and foster inclusive, evidence-based teaching practices. We facilitate the development of vibrant, challenging, and reflective student-centered learning experiences. Our vision is a Cornell teaching community that embraces the research on learning, catalyzes innovative instructional practices, and creates learning environments where every student can thrive.

What We Need

* Bachelor's degree with 3-5 years of instructional design experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

* Strong knowledge of current and emerging learning technologies focused on AI used for teaching and learning.

* Must have sophisticated problem-solving abilities, facilitation, analytical, reasoning and judgment skills.

* Strong interpersonal communication and presentation skills.

* Excellent oral and written communication skills including the ability to obtain and convey service information to people of varying levels of technical knowledge and responsibility is essential.

* Experience consulting with faculty-instructors on instructional technology issues and to recommend appropriate technology solutions.

* Knowledge of current educational technology practices, theories, and emerging trends and technologies that support teaching and learning.

* Ability to identify-recommend appropriate instructional technologies

* Must be able to work effectively in a dynamic, deadline driven, complex, team-based environment with multiple competing priorities.

* Able to meet deadlines, manage competing priorities, and highly responsive to requests.

* Highly experienced and proficient with common desktop applications and learning technologies, such as presentation, multi-media and web technologies and adding AI integration into these technologies.

* Experience incorporating the perspectives of multiple communities.

You will be competitive for this role if you have:

* Experience evaluating tools and confidently advising on what works (and what doesn't) in the classroom

* A strong consultative approach, with the ability to build trust and partner with faculty at varying levels of technical comfort

* Curiosity and adaptability in a rapidly evolving AI and technology landscape

* Experience designing or redesigning courses, especially with technology integration

* Comfort balancing strategy and hands-on support (e.g., from workshop delivery to troubleshooting LMS issues)

* Strong communication skills, with the ability to explain technical concepts clearly in email, meetings, and workshops

* A proactive approach to identifying gaps and bringing forward new tools, ideas, and solutions

If you have all those things, great! We have a few more things that we would prefer you to have, but it's ok if you don't.

* Masters's Degree

* 5+ years of experience in an upper-level academic setting.

* Experience with quantitative analysis

* Experience with planning and coordinating events
