Job Description

PTBS 51900 Patient Care Skills I

Course Coordinator:
Angela Reynolds, PT, DPT, NCS, CBIS

Purpose of the job:

Responsibilities will be split between virtual and in-person TAs. Virtual TAs will be expected to complete most of the grading, while in-person TAs will assist during 6 lab sessions in the course and handle some additional grading. Virtual TAs will also be asked to complete media preparation (videos and cases) during the Spring semester. Each week during the summer, all TAs will meet with the course coordinator to discuss content for the week and grading plans, including consistency plans for grading.

Requirements/Qualifications:

DPT I physical therapy students in good academic standing, who demonstrate effective verbal communication skills, are punctual, take initiative, and have a strong interest in helping students learn. Students should also have a good understanding of how to write a SOAP note, the correct format of a SOAP note, and will be expected to grade objectively using a formatted grading rubric.

Virtual TAs must be available for grading throughout the summer semester (average of 0-4 hours per week for 6 weeks), as well as media prep in the Spring semester (~10 hours of independently scheduled time). In person TAs must be available to attend labs (1-2x per week for 3-6 hours) throughout the summer course duration.

Course Needs:

There will be asynchronous lectures to view with corresponding labs and documentation sessions to assist in and run. Quizzes and documentation assignments will require grading.

Four teaching assistants will be needed. There will be 6 total labs (~ 2 hours each) on Tuesdays and/or Thursdays). Lectures and quizzes will be asynchronous and can be viewed at their own convenience. Additional hours per week change slightly depending upon assignments due that week/coordination with HAL. Grading is completed through Canvas and predominantly on your own time, based on your schedule, with weekly short group meetings to ensure consistency.

The total number of hours throughout the 6-week course will be approximately 35 hours for each TA (with virtual TA time front-loaded in the Spring). On average, students will assist approximately 5 hours per week, including class time, which may potentially increase or decrease on particular weeks depending on assignments and grading.

The same TAs who will be working in PCS I this summer will also be working in PCS II in the fall. That description is as follows:

PTBS 52000 Patient Care Skills II
