Position: Teaching Support Specialist II- Cornell University’s Nancy E. and Peter C. Meinig School of Biomedical Engineering

Teaching Support Specialist II

This position provides technical support to the Biomedical Engineering (BME) undergraduate laboratories. Responsibilities of this position include managing and maintaining the teaching laboratory facilities and equipment; supporting labs and courses in consultation with BME Laboratory professors or assigned faculty lead; training and overseeing teaching assistants, instructing students in laboratory procedures; providing technical assistance for experiments and projects.

Reporting to the Director of Administration and working closely with BME staff and faculty, the Teaching Support Specialist staff member will provide support to several critical functions in the BME Instructional Lab. This can include but not be limited to equipment maintenance and training, ordering supplies and maintaining the chemical inventory; ensuring the safe operation of the teaching labs through setting up Standard Operating Procedures;

setting up and putting away lab experiments for classes; working with student class groups to support their projects; train students and stakeholders on equipment needed for classes.

Bachelor's degree and 2 to 4 years experience in a STEM field, with experience in laboratory procedures and safety protocols, or equivalent combination. Ability to be proactive and independent while working closely in a team environment. Effective communication skills; ability to be clear and concise. Ability to advocate for individuals from a broad range of backgrounds. Ability to cultivate and develop inclusive working relationships with students, faculty, staff, and community members.

This position is located in Ithaca, New York and requires a fully on-site presence. This role will require occasional weekend and evening work. There is no relocation assistance available for this position. There is no visa sponsorship available for this position.
