Teaching Support Specialist

The Center for Teaching Innovation (CTI) is a unit in the Office of the Vice-Provost for Academic Innovation (VPAI). The CTI partners with the Cornell teaching community to explore and foster inclusive, evidence-based teaching practices. We facilitate the development of vibrant, challenging and reflective student-centered learning experiences. Our vision is a Cornell teaching community that embraces the research on learning, catalyzes innovative instructional practices, and creates learning environments where every student can thrive.

Reporting to an Associate Director of the Center for Teaching Innovation (CTI), the Teaching Support Specialist (TSS) will deepen pedagogical development for teachers at all stages of their career, with a particular focus on graduate students. The TSS will work to promote inclusive, evidence-based, and innovative teaching throughout the university. They will collaborate with colleagues and with CTI Graduate Teaching Fellows to develop, implement, and assess programs that support the development and deepening of teaching skills for graduate students and prepare them for careers as future faculty.

This position works collaboratively with other CTI staff members to advance excellence in teaching and learning across the university and support the mission of the CTI.

The Teaching Support Specialist will work with the CTI's Graduate Program to support all graduate teaching assistants in their university teaching responsibilities. The TSS will design, develop and facilitate a range of teaching development programs for graduate students, including workshops, institutes, learning communities and department collaborations. They will contribute to the administration and evaluation of graduate programming itional responsibilities may include developing and teaching courses on pedagogy in higher education.

The TSS will also contribute to CTI's faculty development initiatives. They will join a team supporting CTI's mid-semester feedback program, course observations, department workshops, individual consultations and other efforts. The Center is a large, highly collaborative group, and the TSS will interact with colleagues who have a wide range of skills and experiences.

Required Qualifications:

Master's degree with 3-5 years of relevant experience, including higher education teaching experience, or equivalent combination of education and experience.

  • Experience in or demonstrated commitment to supporting diversity, equity, access, inclusion, and wellbeing.
  • Knowledge of current educational practices in faculty and graduate student development, teaching, and assessment.
  • Proven collaboration and communication skills.
  • Experience participating in or working with graduate training programs.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Ph.D. preferred. Teaching experience in higher education as the instructor of record.
