The College of Agriculture and Life Sciences (CALS) is a pioneer of purpose-driven science and Cornell University's second largest college. We work across disciplines to tackle the challenges of our time through world-renowned research, education, and outreach. The questions we probe and the answers we seek focus on three overlapping concerns: understanding the world's complex, interlocking systems; ensuring access to nutritious food and a healthy environment as a fundamental human right;
and supporting local people and communities everywhere to ensure a prosperous global future.
The Crickard laboratory is hiring a full-time postdoc as part of a project funded by the American Cancer Society. The project aims to investigate the etiology of cancer development, focusing on how deregulation of DNA motor proteins contributes to this process. Significant experience in protein purification and biochemistry is necessary for this position. As part of the study, the candidate will receive training in single-molecule imaging.
The applicant will also be expected to interact with graduate students in the laboratory and participate in collaborations with other groups, either at Cornell or elsewhere. Cornell boasts a high density of investigators working on DNA recombination, replication, and repair. This group of laboratories makes the Molecular Biology and Genetics department at Cornell an ideal place for postdoctoral training in the subject area.
Long-term, the applicant will be expected to develop a project that can be used to establish their own research group. Salaries are set at NIH rates.
Anticipated Division of Time:
- 65% of the employee's time will be spent doing bench laboratory experiments.
- 15% of the employee's time will be spent analyzing and preparing data for presentation
- 10% of the employee's time will involve the mentoring of undergraduate or graduate students
- 10% of the employee's time will involve professional development
Requirements:
- A PhD in Biochemistry, Molecular Biology or Cell biology.
- Evidence of peer-reviewed publications in a related field, and general enthusiasm for science.
- Skills necessary for this position include protein purification, assay development, and maintenance of cell culture. Experience with protein expression and purification from insect or human cells is a plus.
