The Cornell University College of Veterinary Medicine is seeking a Research Support Technician to provide hands-on laboratory and animal care support for two collaborative research programs within the Department of Clinical Sciences. This part-time, entry-level role is ideal for someone interested in veterinary or biomedical research who enjoys working in a team environment, supporting IACUC-approved research activities, maintaining organized laboratory spaces, and contributing to the daily care and wellbeing of research animals.

The job responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

* Support IACUC-approved research activities by preparing work spaces, assisting with protocol setup and cleanup, and maintaining laboratory readiness.

* Maintain clean, organized, and well-stocked laboratory spaces, including equipment cleaning, inventory support, and supply management.

* Provide routine animal care and enrichment while assisting with recordkeeping, waste handling, and other research support tasks in accordance with institutional policies and protocols.

Employees working in the laboratory must receive the pre-exposure rabies prophylaxis vaccination series prior to or immediately after hire, which will be paid for by the department.

Required Qualifications

* High school diploma and up to 1 year of relevant experience, or equivalent combination of education and experience.

* Interest in animal research support, veterinary/biomedical research operations, laboratory organization, and hands-on technical work.

* Ability to follow written and verbal instructions, work safely around animals and laboratory equipment, maintain attention to detail, and communicate clearly with investigators and senior staff.

* Ability to adhere to IACUC-approved protocols, disease-control procedures, laboratory safety policies, PPE requirements, and institutional compliance expectations.

Preferred Qualifications

* Prior experience in a research laboratory, animal care setting, veterinary clinic, farm, shelter, or related animal-handling environment.

* Familiarity with basic laboratory safety, animal enrichment, supply inventory, cleaning/disinfection procedures, or research support workflows.

Important Details about the Position

* This is an onsite position located in Ithaca, NY.

* This is a part-time one-year term position offering 20hrs/wk with potential for extension contingent upon funding and performance.

* We are unable to provide Visa sponsorship, now or in the future, for this position.

* Relocation assistance will not be provided for this position.

While the regular business hours are 8:00 am to 5:00 pm, the specific schedule may change to meet the needs of the business, requiring employees to work early mornings, evenings, weekends and University holidays and scheduled breaks.
