Position: ELECTRICIAN/MASTER ELECTRICIAN

Job Description

JOB SUMMARY:

Perform tasks involved in electrical maintenance, repair and renovations of campus buildings, systems, and equipment to include, but not limited to, distribution systems, motors, relays, starters and transformers. Install new and additional electrical work. Possess knowledge of regulatory code and requirements such as National Electric Code. This position is considered to be essential during emergency situations and the incumbent is subject to being requested to report to work.

SUPERVISION: This position reports to the Supervisor of Electrical and HVAC and will receive day-to-day direction and guidance from the Assistant Supervisor of Electrical. This position may require additional guidance from various Master Technicians and/or Master Electricians as appropriate. This position does not have any supervisory responsibilities.

REPRESENTATIVE DUTIES:

Duties may include, but are not limited to the following.

1. Perform duties and responsibilities congruent with departmental goals, energy conservation and in support of institutional goals.

2. Complete all work to established standards or required specifications.

3. Isolate defects in wiring, switches and other electrical equipment using suitable testing instruments.

4. Plan, layout, install and assemble materials and fixtures as requested by the scope of work.

5. Review service requests from the computerized service request system and update as needed.

6. Run electrical conduit.

7. Repair, maintain, alter or erect any wiring apparatus.

8. Examine and test elements or electrical systems to locate obvious faults, such as blown fuses, short circuits, broken wires, loose connections etc.

9. Read and follow schematics and blueprints as directed.

10. Operate a variety of vehicles and equipment and inform supervisor of all equipment needing major repair work.

11. Assist in ensuring security of vehicles, tools and other equipment.

12. Comply with all applicable standards, policies, and procedures, including safety procedures and the maintenance of a clean work area. Develop and maintain a cooperative working relationship with the campus community.

13. Participate in review and evaluation of existing modes of operation and recommend methods for increased efficiency and cost reduction.

14. Participate in workshops, seminars, training sessions and staff meetings as directed.

15. Periodically serve as a member of the electrical team on-call rotation.

QUALIFICATIONS:

This candidate shall have a high school diploma and a minimum of a two-year electrical degree from a vocational college or equivalent experience, with knowledge of commercial and residential electrical systems. Experience working with single and three phase voltages and regulatory codes. Good written and verbal communication skills, ability to work independently, successfully pass a background check, the ability to lift and carry 80 lbs.,

experience and ability to operate a variety of power/hand tools and testing devices, a valid driver's license and adherence to the requirements of the Office of Risk Management.

WORK ENVIRONMENT:

Most of the work of the incumbent is carried out within a generally accessible, safe, indoor/outdoor environment. The incumbent must be able to operate power/hand tools used in day-to-day operation of duties. The incumbent may be required to use scaffolding, lifts, climb ladders, and stand for long periods of time while using power/hand tools and equipment.

Hiring Range:

$23.09-$24.75 per hour, commensurate with qualifications and experience.
