Job Title:
Climbing Wall Attendant
Your main priority is to provide a safe and fun environment for the IC community. In addition to safety and technical instruction, our focus during open hours is to develop a professional culture. You are partly a technical supervisor and partly a social coordinator! The atmosphere needs to be safe, professional, and enjoyable.
Other possible duties consist of route setting and creating climbing classes.
General Duties
- Enforce climbing wall safety policies
- Open and close the wall, maintain climbing wall appearance
- Know eligibility rules: age limits, liability waivers, etc.
- Administer belay tests and belay climbers if there are at least two monitors on duty
- Oversee all belayers and climbers at the wall, make sure they are climbing safely
- Check carabiners and knots for climbers on top rope and auto-belay
- Act as a rep for Recreational Sports, OREC, and available climbing classes
- Complete maintenance logs and mark damaged equipment for the Wall Coordinator
- Make note of any loose holds for the Wall Coordinator
- Help keep the wall clean and equipment sanitized
- Bi-weekly meetings with the Fitness manager
- Attend Fitness Center All Staff Trainings
- Above all, ensure a pleasant climbing environment
Expectations
- Be cheerful, and courteous
- Keep an eye on the boulder line
- Create an inclusive environment
- Work shirts must be worn during your shift. Other clothing should promote an inclusive and welcoming environment
- Never leave the wall area unattended while climbers are present
- Do not promote unsafe behavior such as free soloing
- Must be available evenings
