Substitute Teacher
Butts County School System utilizes substitute teachers in all grade levels and subject areas. Substitutes must be at least 21 years old. Minimum qualifications are governed by Georgia Professional Standards Commission Rule number 505-2-.20 SUBSTITUTE TEACHING. As a minimum, each substitute teacher shall hold a high school diploma or GED equivalent and have participated in at least four (4) hours of initial substitute teacher training from an approved agency (i.e. RESA, GA Public School System).
Substitute teacher trainings for the Butts County School System are offered by Griffin RESA. Cost includes 3 hour training, materials and Certificate of Completion. A certificate of completion is required in order to be considered as a candidate for substitute teacher opportunities with Butts County Schools.
Those individuals who possess a valid or expired Georgia professional teaching certificate or Paraprofessional certificate are exempt from the training requirement.
Application Process:
Complete the on-line application. Upload or mail a copy of your teaching or parapro certificate OR upload or mail a copy of your official college transcript, high school diploma or GED and Substitute Training Certificate. Applications will be reviewed through Appli Track and ONLY applicants with a complete application will be considered. Complete applications include proof of your highest level of education, teaching certificate, paraprofessional certificate or substitute teacher training certificate as applicable.
If your application is selected to move forward in the process, you will be notified by Human Resources. Background checks are completed on all approved substitute teacher applicants.
Requirements to Remain on Substitute Teacher List:
Substitute Teachers must work at least three (3) days per semester to remain on the active substitute list. Substitute teachers have reasonable assurance to return to work and remain on the substitute list after any break (i.e. summer break) as long as the 3 day requirement has been met. Substitutes must also complete required subsequent criminal records check.
