Location

Hybrid (virtual/onsite) position with required onsite days on Monday, Tuesday and Thursday. May be assigned to any Consumers Energy Service Center located throughout Michigan’s lower Peninsula. Selected candidate must be within a commutable distance or willing to relocate (relocation package available for qualifying candidates).

General Summary of

Job Responsibilities

Senior Sourcing Manager leads complex, high‑value sourcing initiatives and category strategies, driving cost optimization, risk mitigation, and supplier performance across key spend areas. The role operates with autonomy, translating business priorities into sourcing approaches, influencing cross‑functional stakeholders, and strengthening supplier relationships to deliver measurable business value.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities
  • Lead sourcing initiatives for moderately complex to complex categories, including development of sourcing strategies aligned with business objectives; conduct spend analysis, market benchmarking, and supplier evaluations to identify cost savings and value opportunities; use data to support sourcing strategies, supplier optimization, and performance improvements.
  • Execute RFIs, RFPs, and RFQs with increasing complexity, driving cost, quality, and performance improvements.
  • Support development and evolution of category strategies with a long‑term, strategic focus.
  • Lead supplier negotiations for higher‑value and more complex agreements, including terms, pricing, and risk mitigation; manage supplier relationships for key suppliers, addressing performance issues and driving continuous improvement.
  • Oversee contract execution and lifecycle management to ensure compliance, performance, and value realization.
  • Partner with cross‑functional stakeholders (Finance, Legal, Risk, Business Units) to align sourcing strategies and business outcomes; influence decision‑making through data‑driven insights, market intelligence, and sourcing expertise; provide guidance and recommendations to business leaders on sourcing approaches and supplier selection.
  • Provide mentorship and guidance to junior sourcing professionals; share best practices and contribute to the development of sourcing capabilities within the team; participate in cross‑functional initiatives to improve procurement processes and outcomes.
  • Support procurement frameworks, policies, and continuous improvement initiatives to enhance sourcing effectiveness; ensure compliance with procurement policies, legal requirements, and risk management standards.
  • Other duties as assigned or necessary.
Knowledge / Skills / Abilities
  • Advanced knowledge of the end‑to‑end sourcing lifecycle, including RFx processes and category strategy development.
  • Strong negotiation skills for moderately complex to complex commercial agreements.
  • Knowledge of contract management, supplier performance, and risk mitigation.
  • Proficiency with MS Office suite, advanced Excel, PowerPoint, and Word; familiarity with enterprise‑wide procurement tools such as SAP, Ariba, Power BI, and Service Now.
  • Ability to influence stakeholders across functions and align competing priorities.
  • Strong analytical skills, including spend analysis, market intelligence, and financial evaluation.
  • Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal, along with supplier management, negotiation, and analytical skillsets.
  • Ability to operate independently and manage multiple complex initiatives simultaneously.
Education & Experience
  • Bachelor’s degree in Business, Engineering, Information Technology, Procurement, Supply Chain Management, or another related field, with four or more years of experience in purchasing and project management software and leading complex sourcing initiatives.
  • Associate’s degree in a related field with the same experience requirements.
  • High School Diploma or GED with six or more years of relevant experience.
