Summary

Jackson College is seeking a dynamic and cutting‑edge faculty member to share in the vision and leadership of the Business and Accounting programs. The faculty member will be committed to innovative instructional models, distance learning, hybrid and competency‑based education, and the curriculum’s globalization. The faculty member will teach business and accounting courses (contemporary business, management, marketing, business law, human resources management, finance, and accounting) in the classroom, MDOC facilities associated with our Corrections Education Program (CEP), online, or in an internship/externship setting, and will evaluate student progress.

This full‑time teaching position includes instruction of 33–35 credit hours per academic year. Strong communication skills and computer proficiency are a must.

Essential Functions (Duties & Responsibilities) Planning
  • Participate in department and academic program development and review.
  • Plan thoroughly on a daily, weekly, and semester time period to ensure implementation of the established curriculum and provide strong support for students in their pursuit of established expectations.
  • Develop plans that promote the development of higher‑order thinking skills in the instructional process.
  • Develop and maintain courses in the Canvas LMS system.
  • Ensure syllabi are provided to the Deans’ office each semester.
Instruction
  • Provide motivation to learn through thorough planning, enthusiasm for subject matter, appropriate climate for learning within the classroom, relevant and current course content, and understanding of individual differences and learning styles.
  • Facilitate and pace instruction to maximize learning.
  • Utilize varied instructional delivery modes.
  • Assess learning frequently using various methods, such as questioning techniques, oral and/or written quizzes, student presentations, writing assignments, self‑determined assessment instruments, and metrics.
  • Provide remediation as deemed appropriate and possible.
  • Develop and administer exams consistent with learning goals, including a final examination.
  • Develop and distribute course syllabi for each course taught to each student, addressing goals and outcomes, including General Education Outcomes (GEOs), reflecting the curriculum adopted by the academic area and/or program for course, establishing and communicating expectations for students, and explaining the relationship of those expectations to the grading and assessment process.
General Responsibilities
  • Advise students on curriculum, academic programs, employment, and career goals, and other matters as appropriate.
  • Respond to requests of academic area and/or program leads, committee chairs, records office, etc. in a timely and thorough manner.
  • Consistently meet instructional schedule and other assignments and commitments in support of the college.
  • Establish and maintain regular and appropriate office hours that are sent to the Deans’ office and posted outside faculty office each semester.
  • Treat all members of the college community with dignity and respect.
  • Work through established channels to resolve problems.
  • Participate in activities designed to promote attainment of the college vision and its missions.
  • Participate in academic area and/or program planning and improvement activities as requested.
  • Meet requirements of the faculty evaluation plan in a timely manner and with the intention of maintaining teaching effectiveness, professional development and support of college/community initiatives.
  • Attend Commencement and Convocation.
  • Attend and participate in academic area and/or program and department meetings.
  • Formally document learning assessment efforts in a timely manner.
  • Learn and comply with all college policies.
  • Uphold and enforce the student code of conduct.

  • Maintain current knowledge in subject area(s) of instruction.
  • Maintain current knowledge of research in the area of teaching and learning.
