SUMMARY Jackson College is seeking a dynamic and cutting-edge faculty member to share in the vision and leadership of the Business and Accounting programs. The faculty member will be dedicated to innovative instructional models, distance learning, and hybrid and competency-based education. The faculty member will be committed to the curriculum's globalization. The selected faculty member will be responsible for teaching business and accounting courses, which may include contemporary business, management, marketing, business law, human resources management, finance, and accounting.
The faculty member will be responsible for teaching assigned courses in the classroom, in our targeted MDOC facilities associated with our Corrections Education Program (CEP), online, or in an internship/externship setting, and evaluation of student progress. This full-time teaching position includes instruction of 33-35 credit hours per academic year. There is a possibility of teaching night and weekend courses, online or hybrid courses.
Strong communication skills and computer proficiency are a must.
This position will be responsible for representing the business and accounting disciplines in a variety of public forums, including educational, workforce, professional, and policy-making arenas. The selected candidate will be familiar with the Accreditation Council for Business Schools and Programs (ACBSP) accreditation and understand the reaccreditation process and responsibilities as they apply to the business and accounting disciplines. Primary responsibilities include assisting with course coordination, development, and program review/improvement, meeting scheduled office hours, regular participation in department meetings, and service on college-wide committees.
Candidates must be able to work effectively with other faculty and staff in a rapidly changing team environment. A commitment to professional development and learning is needed as the business and accounting disciplines continue to expand and grow. This individual must possess a passion, as demonstrated by experience, for effective teaching and advising of diverse student populations, plus excellent oral and written communication skills, and a demonstrated commitment to the comprehensive community college mission.
The candidate must have the ability to incorporate international and global issues into the curriculum. The successful candidate will have the ability to understand the needs of others, be flexible, and maintain a high work ethic and level of integrity.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned.
Planning
* Participates in department and academic program development and review
* Plans thoroughly on a daily, weekly, and semester time period to ensure implementation of the established curriculum and provides strong support for students in their pursuit of established expectations.
* Develops plans that promote the development of higher-order thinking skills in the instructional process.
* Develops and maintains courses in the Canvas LMS system.
* Ensures syllabi are provided to the Deans' office each semester.
Instruction
* Provides motivation to learn via:
* thorough planning
* enthusiasm for subject matter
* appropriate climate for learning within the classroom
* relevant and current course content
* understanding of individual differences and learning styles.
* Facilitates and paces instruction to maximize learning.
* Utilizes varied instructional delivery modes.
* Assesses learning frequently using various methods, such as:
* questioning techniques
* oral and/or written quizzes
* student presentations
* writing assignments
* self-determined assessment instruments, and metrics.
* Provides remediation as deemed appropriate and possible.
* Develops and administers exams consistent with learning goals, including a final examination.
* Develops and distributes course syllabi for each course taught to each student, which:
* conveys the goals and outcomes of the course to include General Education Outcomes (GEO's)
* reflects the curriculum adopted by the academic area and/or program for course
* establishes and communicates expectations for students
* explains the relationship of those expectations to the grading and assessment process.
General Responsibilities
* Advises students on curriculum, academic programs, employment, and career goals, and other matters as appropriate
* Responds to requests of academic area and/or program leads, committee chairs, records office, etc. in a timely and thorough manner.
* Consistently meets instructional schedule and other assignments and commitments in support of the college.
* Establishes and maintains regular and appropriate office hours which are sent to the Deans' office and posted outside faculty office each semester.
* Treats all members of the college community with dignity and respect.
