Job Description
This position will be located within the secure perimeter on a full‑time basis and will have face‑to‑face contact with prisoners on a daily basis. The library assistance role includes preparing library call‑outs, ensuring library services are provided to prisoners in accordance with MDOC policy and procedure, instructing workers in library techniques, monitoring prisoner use of ELL computers in the Law Library, and assisting prisoners with their library needs.

:- Library Assistant 5 – No specific type or amount required.
- Library Assistant 6 – One year of experience equivalent to a Library Assistant 5.
- Library Assistant E7 – Two years of experience equivalent to a Library Assistant, including one year equivalent to a Library Assistant 6.
Certain positions may require a criminal history background check.
Position DescriptionApplicants who have been convicted of a misdemeanor or felony are ineligible for employment with the Department of Corrections until satisfactory completion of any sentence imposed, including parole or probation. The Department may screen out job applicants who have been convicted of a felony in accordance with Public Act 191 of 2017.

New Hire TrainingNew hires to MDOC, along with previous MDOC employees returning after more than two years, will complete Non‑Custody New Employee Training (NCNET) with either 40 or 80 hours of initial in‑person training based on level of offender contact and job classification. All new employees will complete additional online training to successfully finish NCNET. Overnight travel may be required.
