SUMMARY
The Project Director, TRIO/Student Support Services is responsible for managing the TRIO Student Support Services (TRIO SSS) grant project and implementing the TRIO program in an effort to support other strategies for at risk students in accordance with all applicable federal, state, and institutional rules and regulations. The TRIO/SSS director will be responsible for reporting 86% of their time and effort towards the TRIO grant and 14% to be allotted towards institutional support.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES- Communicate TRIO SSS objectives to all JC staff, and coordinate activities to facilitate maximum effectiveness and utilization of resources;
- Assure the project operates in total compliance with federal regulations and policies in concert with institutional grants manager;
- Select, train, and supervise all SSS staff and student workers;
- Communicate program availability to students;
- Coordinate and oversee identification and selection of SSS eligible students;
- Conduct selected SSS workshops/seminars and advise all participants as appropriate;
- Oversee preparation of all fiscal and technical reports and approve all budget expenditures in concert with institutional grants manager;
- Coordinate SSS cultural activities;
- Work with SSS Academic/Career Advisor to develop Student Education Plans (SEPs);
- Coordinate project evaluation and data analysis as required by the program grant and as defined for internal performance monitoring;
- Use performance data to identify areas for improvement and take action to improve quality;
- Assure appropriate documentation of all key process required to provide for consistent and effective implementation of the TRIO program;
- Maintain current knowledge on all programs of study and occupational outlook to accurately describe the benefits of JC to prospects and stakeholders;
- Ensure that TRIO SSS students are provided exemplary customer service including information needed to effectively maneuver through JC and onto their intended transfer institution or future employment;
- Work with the Executive Dean of Students, the Director of the Center for Student Success, the Foundation Studies Department, institutional grants manager, and the TRIO support network to ensure objectives of the TRIO SSS grant are achieved;
- Share knowledge of TRIO/SSS strategies and program success with other areas of the institution;
- Foster relationships with area SSS programs and directors;
- Support the Center for Student Success Director and work with the Student Ombudsman and other departments to address student conduct concerns and complaints in an effort to improve retention of disadvantaged students;
- Responsible for understanding, supporting and actively demonstrating the College’s beliefs, values, mission and vision and being in agreement to be evaluated by same.
Internal: Coordinate and communicate within the College community to facilitate student enrollment. Frequent contact with Foundation Studies staff and faculty, Student Services enrollment specialists, financial aid staff, records staff, and other departments for the purposes of information sharing.
External: Make contact, as needed, businesses and other agencies, in addition to providing information about Jackson College.
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIESCarries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the College's policies, labor agreement and applicable laws. Responsibilities include interviewing, hiring, and training employees; planning, assigning, and directing work; appraising performance; rewarding and disciplining employees; addressing complaints and resolving problems.
